The only error is when it is no longer cost-effective to treat someone.

lol i agree that insurance costs are bad, but like JD7.62 said-dont get me started on CAR insurance! now, that to me is a total ripoff lol..

I accidentally stabbed my leg this year and went to the hospital to get stitches and a tetanus shot. I just limped in, showed my health card, and that was it. What would happen in the U.S.? I couldn't imagine budgeting for accidental things like that, or worrying about paying lots for medication.
I live in Canada and I'm happy with our health care system - I've never had to worry about health care even though I have used it over the years.
Competition is great, but the whole point of living in a society is that it is better than struggling alone in nature. The people that historically touted the benefits of competition were most definitely the rich and powerful - and probably didn't start off poor.
People who are poor and in bad situations are not necessarily lazy or unmotivated - effort, intelligence, and perseverance don't guarantee anything... the good don't always get what they deserve.
I pay a lot in taxes, but I don't mind. I love my country and the opportunities it gives to the citizens, and if I'm willing to give me life, what is a bit of money? With shelter, good food, clean water, sanitation, etc., taken care of what else do I want except for furthering my knowledge, contributing to society, and having some nice fish tanks?

Health care is a service. We pay for goods and services. What is so hard to understand about that? By the way, I am FAR from rich. There is NO SUCH THING AS FREE HEALTH CARE! For those of you that live in places where you think there is free health care, YOU and everyone else are paying for it.
Acer, your scenario depends on what type of plan your employer has chosen. Some people would be able to walk in and get all patched up and leave, some people might have say a $40 co-pay, some people might pay an "X" percentage (usually 10-20%) and some people may have to pay ALL of it at the CONTRACTED rate to towards their deductible. It just all depends on how much your employer is contributing to your coverage.
