health care

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it's hard to get things done when our institutions are motivated by self-interests. that's about it. while capitalism has promoted and fostered growth, it has also led to a society governed by greed. simple truths. time to restart the game.

The only error is when it is no longer cost-effective to treat someone.

Soon enough, it will become profitable to eliminate people who will cost the insurance companies too much.

The profit motive is not compatible with the Hippocratic oath.

Jbenebres: Hell yeah.

lol i agree that insurance costs are bad, but like JD7.62 said-dont get me started on CAR insurance! now, that to me is a total ripoff lol..

Hmmm........ :screwy: Will it matter in 150 years when you are just bones in dirt? I think you are looking WAY too far into simple life. When you are 70 (or 20 in some cases) You will think the post you just made above, is plain silly.....Sorry for the harshness, I just think this topic is on the line already, and your post is conducive to controversy.

We pay $800 a month for insurance (DH, me, and DS.) We have a $1500 detuctabile per person (total of $4500 for the family.) After that is met we pay 20%. Our co-pay for doctor's visits is $30, ER is $75. Our meds are anywhere from $10 to $35 each, which adds up to another $150 a month for both of us. We have no dental or vision insurance.

Hubby and I both have health issues. If it weren't for his employer's health insurance we'd be un-insurable.

Even with all our problems we never seem to meet the deductible, so we pay out of pocket for our tests and DS's shots. DH got "fixed" this year and that was $950 (we used our tax-return to pay for it.)

It sucks, but that's just the way it is. Heck, I'm still paying on tests I had done last year. The just keep adding up, but I need to have them.

I hope things get easier for you, hun! And yer hubby's boss sounds like an understanding person! Take care, my love X

I accidentally stabbed my leg this year and went to the hospital to get stitches and a tetanus shot. I just limped in, showed my health card, and that was it. What would happen in the U.S.? I couldn't imagine budgeting for accidental things like that, or worrying about paying lots for medication.

I live in Canada and I'm happy with our health care system - I've never had to worry about health care even though I have used it over the years.

Competition is great, but the whole point of living in a society is that it is better than struggling alone in nature. The people that historically touted the benefits of competition were most definitely the rich and powerful - and probably didn't start off poor.

People who are poor and in bad situations are not necessarily lazy or unmotivated - effort, intelligence, and perseverance don't guarantee anything... the good don't always get what they deserve.

I pay a lot in taxes, but I don't mind. I love my country and the opportunities it gives to the citizens, and if I'm willing to give me life, what is a bit of money? With shelter, good food, clean water, sanitation, etc., taken care of what else do I want except for furthering my knowledge, contributing to society, and having some nice fish tanks?

Constitutional Republic: A constitutional republic is a state where the head of state and other officials are elected as representatives of the people and must govern according to existing constitutional law that limits the government's power over citizens. There are a number of distinct forms of constitutional republics. In a mixed constitutional republic, executive, legislative, and judicial powers are separated into distinct branches so that no individual or group has absolute power and the power of the majority of the population is checked by only allowing them to elect representatives. The fact that a constitution exists that limits the government's power, makes the state constitutional. That the head(s) of state and other officials are chosen by election, rather than inheriting their positions, and that their decisions are subject to judicial review makes a state republican.

wait... America's not a what?

So, if health care is a right what other services are a right? Do I have to pay my mechanic to fix my car? What about my vet for my dog's shots? My barber when I get a hair cut?

Health care is a service. We pay for goods and services. What is so hard to understand about that? By the way, I am FAR from rich. Heck I work for an insurance company and I can't really afford to go to the doctor unless absolutely necessary! I am not asking for a handout like many people do. I don't need anyone else to wipe my own...:irked:

There is NO SUCH THING AS FREE HEALTH CARE! For those of you that live in places where you think there is free health care, YOU and everyone else are paying for it.

Acer, your scenario depends on what type of plan your employer has chosen. Some people would be able to walk in and get all patched up and leave, some people might have say a $40 co-pay, some people might pay an "X" percentage (usually 10-20%) and some people may have to pay ALL of it at the CONTRACTED rate to towards their deductible. It just all depends on how much your employer is contributing to your coverage.
