Help Me Decide on Filtration

Also what is your guys thoughts on putting the left over dry rock i had from my reef tank in the sump? It's porous and encourages the growth of nitrifying bacteria. Are there any downsides to it? Also wouldn't that kind of rock help buffer my tank for my african cichlids at the same time?

If using lavarock or pourous rock in general i find they work best if used in the trickle section. They can clog up and start working against you if always submerged.

My trickle tower is just like yours. But since i have massive water flow in and out of the sump (3600gph+) i used a T and a valve to recycle about 500 gph through the tower thats full of ceramic rings, bioballs and some finer polishing pads. I also placed my trickle tower before the main chamber of pot scrubbies. Theres more pot scrubbies in the bottom 2 drawers. The recycled 500gph gets filtered a massive amount if you think about it.

Thanks! I like the idea of recycling water through the tower like your doing. So I bough out the first dollar store of scrubbies. 19 bags of six. Have to hit up another dollar store today for some more. I looked on eBay for ceramic media rings to run submersed. I found I could get about 1000g of rings in 2 reusable bags for about 13 bucks so I'll probably do that.
