Alternative to painting. Backgrounds that are applied like window tint.

I installed this on my 29 gallon tank a few weeks ago and it came out awesome.

Will be installing it on my 125 tomorrow. A great alternative to painting.

You can buy it from.............

Painting it is easier in my opinion.... Don't have to worry about bubbles either...

I laid my tank down and poured paint right out of the can onto the tank. Used a brush to spread out a nice thick coat and let gravity do the rest. Waited over night for it to dry and all is good.

Just thought I'd say my piece:

I tried painting my background with a brush, and no matter how long I gave it, it wouldn't adhere and pulled up when a second coat was applied. It was too much of a hassle to try being delicate with a roller, so I just invested in a couple cans of Krylon, and got the whole thing done in no time, with a more consistent coat.

I am on the 3rd coat, waiting 3 hours before coats with a roller. It's covering very well! This is on my practice 10 gallon of course.

UPDATE:

Alright guys. I experimented with the oil based today. Didn't seem to cover as well as the latex did.

So, I will be rolling the flat black latex onto the 125 with a 3/8 nap 4" roller. Does my recipe sound alright? I will need at least 5 coats given the results of my 10 gallon test tank.

Sounds right to me... I was on coat 2 with the same type roller when I decided to just pour the paint on the back of the tank spread it out with a brush and let it dry over night.

Cool thanks Mavrick. Alright guys... I worked up the balls and just finished the first coat on the 125. Coat 2 will be tomorrow, I want this one to really dry. And yeah at this rate I'll probably end up pouring it on haha.

3rd coat done! It's starting to cover very well over 2 days with 8+ hours between coats. The only thing is a little bit of the paint is going up inside the trim. hard to explain, but I'll try and get a picture of it. You can see it when you're looking at the tank the right way.

8hours is kind of overkill but at least it's dry when you apply the next coat! Pics yet?

I taped my trim (although black already) with 3M trimming tape (blue roll) on the top and bottom trim. I figured out that I had to kind of smush the roller into the corner of where the glass and the trim meat to get the paint all of the way in there. when it dried I just used a Brand new Razor blade, cut right intothe corner, mkaing sure that i wasn't goign to be pulling the paint with it (latex) and then peeled the tape off of the trim to reveal a beautiful flat black BG.....

Good luck! Sounds like you are doing just fine.

P.S. remeber, if you mess up.... What's the worst that can happen? You'd have to remove the old and start over... :D

Coats 3 and 4 were thick. I have the tank turned back around the right way and just put in the sand. Rather than wash a quart at a time for 5 hours I'm going to wash it from my tank with water changes.
