I want some of these guys when they are like 2 inches...like 10 of them...

Get them on pellets and FD blood worms early so they will accept them throught their life.

I would have thought the idea with scooping out the stone with a container and putting a filter and air stone would have worked. What will you be doing differently next time?

i dont think so, actually i dont think so at all, not unless i used water from the original tank and had the exact same params, and temp, and then you run the chance of crushing all the eggs not on the slate with the loose gravel and on top of that, you run the risk of loosing the bond between the pair, which in my eyes is not worth any amount of fry, compared to the bonded pair, the fry are worthless to me

not to mention, it takes away from the natural behavior of the fish, if you take the eggs away from them, how are they ever gonna learn how to raise and protect the fry properly on their own? and then you dont get to study how they are as parents or anything, which is my whole reason for doing it

so i guess if you were smart about it and was doing it for profit only then yes that would be worth it, but not if your doing it just to satisfy your own hunger for knowledge of their behavior naturally, well as natural as it can be being in a aquarium

end of rant lol

if i did anything different the only things would be- to have them by themselves, and to be more observant

i only even considered that cause the fact that i was suppose to be moving days from when it happened, which is not the case anymore

my pair were looking good today, colors were crazy, i wish i hadnt lent out my camera

didnt notice any losses today, still got a lil swarm, they seem to be doing well, im gonna try to get them in a tank of there own soon, but the smallest i have are 20s so im on the fence cause i dont want them to have to much trouble getting the bbs, and i need to think of a better way to feed them the bbs, ive been using a turkey baster cause there still in the big tank so im not worried about there being to much salt, but in a 20 is another story, ive been debating on just trying a real fine net

i was bored today so i took a few pics in my fish room, heres a few of the parents, im not able to really get any good pics of the babys yet, atleast none that are any different from the ones i already have

Did you try to breed them? What are the water parameters? Did the male have the hump before breeding? That is an amazing pair...

thanks, and he got the hump a few weeks before the first spawn, it was crazy he had 0 hump then all of a sudden one day he had a pretty good size one out of nowhere, and it kept growing, but after the second spawn when they were protecting the eggs/wigglers/fry his hump went down alot and wasnt dark red like before, his hump now is huge and red again, i assume it has something to do with their breeding attraction habits or something like that.

yes my plan was to breed them, i had 4 originally, but i didnt do anything special to make them breed, just alot of peice and quiet, there in a diff room so they only see me and only a few times a day

i havent tested in a while so i dunno, but the temp is 85-86, i have a decent amount of salt in my tanks at all times, good filtration, but theres quite a bit of algae buildup in there, cause i dont have a pleco big enough that they wont kill

well im not moving anytime soon anymore cause of some bs, so im gonna be picking up a 210 for these guys within the next 2 months, 210 being the biggest i can fit at this place, and i mite even be pushing it still, but i think it will be fine, im gonna be setting up a 20 long for the fry as soon as i get some sponge filters, probably less then a week, ill be able to post pics of the fry then
