jaws I see your edit now, and while it may be true that I could elaborate and be of assistance to some, it is more likely that I would end up insulting other users more directly, which is of no benefit to anyone...

LOL... as I was typing that, I watched one of my silver dollars take a dump and another silver dollar came rushing up to eat the feces. That is EXACTLY the behavior I was trying to discourage... wish I could have posted a video of that encounter instead of describing it, that would have been perfect. Good timing, my fishies!

I understand but if you dont mind when you habe time can you pm me what ever info you do have ? Well water and purification systems are all new to me. The info could come in handy when i move...

P.s i absolutely hate sd freakin lawn mowers with fins ;)

Because I am not interested in arguing on the internet. If I wanted an argument with no purpose or hope of any end result, I have a wife for that.
I assume your talking about me I don't have any interest in an argument but plz inform me on what would be right method instead? I was going off the basis of reducing heavy metals I was just going off what my well has?

I'm a little confused too but to back up my statements, I have heard rarely of crypto infections passing thru well systems, all else would only pertain to mammals. Luckily fish can't contract giardia....

Jaws, when you do move, we can talk. I used to have to deflect customers on a regular basis when they wanted to ask all the questions when they dropped their water sample off for me to test. I had a spiel that when something like this...

Water treatment is a complicated science, and every situation is unique. You and I can spend days talking about all the possible treatment solutions. I felt that I was very well verse in the art of system design, having learned from a wide variety of professionals, and after 7 years I would not claim to have known the answer to every situation. Trust me, you do not want to sit here and tell you about all the possibilities I am considering right now. AFTER I have had the chance to analyze this sample, the number of options will be reduced significantly, as certain waters have to be treated in certain ways. Even then, I promise that you will be sick of hearing me elaborate on the system that I have designed and recommended, but at that point you can ask me all of the questions that you want. Now is the time that I get to ask YOU questions, this sample, where it came from, when you got it, details on the water supply, and how you intend to use this water.

So, once you have that new water, and get it tested, I would be pleased to help out another MFKer with my recommendations.

As for the silver dollars, they are in my oscar tank, so if they didn't mow the law, the oscar would uproot it. Their little noses are all rubbed raw from scraping algae off of rough rocks, and I actually enjoy watching them work at it between cleaning up after oscar meals, as if they might starve to death...

I am not going to get into this conversation beyond this one comment, but here it is...

A lot of the comments that have been made in this thread regarding well water quality and treatment options are at least partially incorrect if not egregiously so. I am not doubting anyones fish care experience or abilities, and I actually would like to give a +1 to the old water heater comment made earlier, most people don't think about that and it can certainly be a source of significant contamination. Beyond that and the comments suggesting that the well water be tested, most of the well water related information shared should be disregarded.

I worked for a plumbing systems and water treatment wholesaler for over seven years between my BS and MS studies, dealt with residential, commercial, agricultural systems, and tested water for municipal distributors. I don't wish to pick on any individual comment made, but I had several vocal outbursts while reading the last quarter of this thread... READER BEWARE! Ignorance is difficult to filter as a reader when you yourself are not thoroughly familiar with the subject matter.

I'm lost on this thread now. If you have some information that could help the OP why not share it? I'm sure you can do it in a way that wouldn't be insulting to anyone. We are all here to learn and what one member doesn't know another member can pick up and help out with. I would be interested in hearing what you have to say on the subject. I know next to nothing about well water snd wells so I think it would be interesting.
