Help with annoying sand

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
To get really coarse black diamond sand, I bought the coarsest grade, then sieved it thru a screen dry. I threw out 75% of the sand to get only the biggest grains.

This removes almost all the oil residue that floats off the sand, and I didn't have to rinse it.

Have u tried using or making a spray bar for all your outtakes with multiple holes out of pvc to disperse the flow.

I have not. I know someone also suggested use the horizontal flat outputs instead of the circular ones that came with the loc lines. Only thing putting me off from trying is how much of a pain it was originally clamping the loc line pieces together without their special tool. But I guess I might be at the point of the sand being more annoying.

I would like to try another brand of sand too. What's odd is I don't have this same problem in a different tank that has higher flow, but that tank is taller and has a different black sand. Of course I can't remember what brand sand in that one...
