Hemichromis Fasciatus Spawn!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Jahjah, do you have better pics? They look to me like Frempongi. That would be pretty nice pair. H. Elongatus are a darker green from my experience. They should also have blue specals if they're H. Elongatus. How big?

Tany, my female is about 10". Male is around 8". Very little info on them. I've seen they can grow anywhere from 8"-10"

Had to pull my male Fasciatus our from my tank this morning at midnight. Was putting a whoopin to my female. From what I've gathered, most people that have pairs of this fish, the male ends up killing the female. My Male is in a 40g breeder now...

Jahjah, google Hemichromis Elongatus and check pics. You'll see what I'm talking about. If you had a Frempongi pair, that'd be sweet! I tried hard to get one but, $160 on 8 of them, I gave up. Frempongi are really rare and endemic to lake Bosumtwi. Commercial fishing is not allowed in this lake as it is considered a sacred lake. You're only allowed to fish from wooden planks that are set around the lake with a fishing pole. Truly a rare fish. I wish I had a Frempongi pair!

I also thought tht to, just wasnt sure, they were labeled 5 star general jewel where I got them from. I have them in a darker substrate now so they are a lil darker, they have spawned but wasnt successful. Male is 5" and fm is maybe 4-4.5" ill try and get pics in diff substrate

Well, my female H. Fasciatus decided to kill my male H. Frempongi while I was at work last Saturday... Have about 20 fry that I've separated into 3 tanks... They don't seem to be as aggressive as my F1 H. Fasciatus fry so that is a good thing. Hopefully, with some luck, I'll get a few adults from this batch.
