Here is what a meter long aimara looks like

Alot of factors go into growth of a fish lol. Thanks for sharing green that thing is a monster. I think you can get an aimara to a size over the span of years of course with live food, current, a large tank or pond, and keep it solo. Some of the main points is keeping the fish happy so it has an appetite, keep it so that it has to work for the food such as in the wild, and provide the space needed. And of course time and dedication cause these fish are likely 10+ years old.

Then why not setup a tank and use HQI metal halide light? They are the best to grow corals (the light wraps around it), a nice way to mimic the sun than T5, LED.
They certainly do the trick for corals in tanks.I have just never been a big fan of all that expensive lighting in tanks which partly explains why I never got into corals when I kept saltwater fish.

My bad for the late reply, out here enjoying the beach life in Bali for the weekend. I'm glad y'all enjoyed this true predator as much as I did. I think there was another massive cayenne aimara that I posted up where a sports drink bottle was used as a size reference next to it. They are absolutely menacing, aren't they? As for the comment on natural sunlight UV, it really play out more than we previously knew. It's common to know out here that Arowana/dorado colors are greatly intensified when exposed to consistent sunlight. Perhaps it may be a crucial element of growth for these monsters too. Genetics definitely play a big role as for example, my gatf that's blind in one eye has grown much faster and bigger than any of my other gatfs/atfs that I've ever kept. It hasn't even been close. I was certain it was growing at the pace of what an Arowana would be. I do feel that aimaras are much happier being the solitary ambush predator that they are in nature rather than being kept in a community. Mine is always pissed off at me but leaves his tankmates alone for the most part except an overly aggressive dorado. These monster meter long aimaras are definitely over 10 years IMO. I also recommend DB junkie DB junkie to move his aimara to a solo setup with good flow and live feed to gauge the growth data metrics. Hehehe, I will follow through the same once I start building out the fish room. (I'm always so tempted to leave my current aimara in comm settings as it's been somewhat successful already) and eventually import one that is probably around 2.5ft in a couple years. (That way it doesn't break the bank)lol MFK dreams yo

the thing to keep in mind about the light exposure when thinking about it effecting a fish's growth .
is that depending on the fish's habitat some fish might not receive a whole lot of direct sunlight in there natural environment .
in open water were corals grow ok yes lots of light . but smaller rivers and streams with towering jungle trees not so much ...

Don't really see how a predator that basically lives in a mud puddle could benefit so greatly from sunlight, but I'm a pretty open minded individual. I just know my Aimara grow much faster when they are happy enough to gorge themselves regularly, which does NOT seem to happen in the presence of the preds I currently have mine mixed with..... lol.

Sounds like a pond in a sun room would be ideal for monster wolves as well as rays.... lol.

Greenerinks - not sure I saw the pic you are talking about but you had some pics of your friends 86cm Aimara that had some funky colors.
