here we go... 500g build start

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
k thanks for the tip. luckily my tank isnt very tall, but im still nervious

Acrylic can certainly bow just like glass. As long as you have solid brace bars you should be fine. That's pretty weird you only have .5" acrylic for a tank that huge though. My acrylic is only a 125 gallon tank and has two brace bars and is .75" acrylic.

ya idk i know the tank is like 10 yrs old, but i guess we will see. my friend told me his 300 wide was less than 1/2 inch thick sides, but my fingers are crossed

I'm sure you'll be fine. Here's why I think so. If it's an older tank someones had it full before. If the acrylic wasn't thick enough to hold the weight of the water someone would have already found that out the hard way and there really isn't any repairing such a disaster when it comes to acrylic.

I am a new member and trying to get a hang of Mfk. Last summer, I built a 450 gallon plywood aquarium, and I have learned so much from it. If you have any questions just ask. But may I say, do NOT use treated lumber on the inside of the tank. It will seep toxins into the water, and your epoxy, won't be as adhesive. I don't recommend using treated lumber on any of the tank unless it outside.

i gtg do some more plumbing and sand washing, ill try to get more pics tonight

almost all plumbed, just need to go from sump to the pump. i got the standpipes done, and the 2 dumps from overflows to the filter socks. i got pump to tank plumbed, and got my heater tossed in to start to heat it up. i threw in a powerhead for now, so my list of things to do is growing smaller. i need to plumb sump to pump, wash more and more and more (another 400lbs) sand, and fill'er'up and cross my fingers. its over 2/3 full and im hoping to finish tomorrow. stay updated for pics tomm

lol jon, washing sand is the worst part of this whole build. im thinkin it would've been worth spending the extra 500 bucks for good stuff i wouldnt need to wash.
