here we go... 500g build start

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ugh got it all fired up and found a leak... too bad i cant really get to it! its off one of the bulkheads where the fitting goes over it. unfortunately i had to drill a hole through 4x4 and its up where i cant reach it. anyone know a way to seal it without draining 500g and breaking my pvc?

lol jon, washing sand is the worst part of this whole build. im thinkin it would've been worth spending the extra 500 bucks for good stuff i wouldnt need to wash.

I'm sure. I've seen people use PFS without pre rinsing and it cleans up very fast. Of course I would like to pre rinse any substrate I introduce whether it's clean already or not.

Ouch... I don't see any way to fix the leak in a connection from bulk head to pvc except draining, detaching the pvc and reattaching. Unless the bulk head is in an in tank overflow that water can't get in. If that's the case you shouldn't have to drain the whole tank to fix this since it's in a dry overflow. You using a bead of silicone around the connection? I always do this to be safe.

looking good! but i do have one concern, if those filter socks get clogged (which they do very easily!) they will overfow and all the water will be going on the floor..

the weird thing with that sump, when water overflows, it does down the sides and they dont touch the outsides. i checked the flow and stuff yesterday and when it was full speed, it did overflow a little. i think ill be ok though, sorry for lack of pics, i cant find camera, and had to drain the tank to i can move it and replace the piece that screws onto the bulkhead

Your flow into the sump was causing the sump too overflow?
What you going to do about that? Seems like it should worry you a little more, especially if your power goes out and it continues to flow to the sump but not out of the sump.
Maybe I am not understanding what your talking about.

no flow into the filtersock holders was overflowing into the sump... tough to explain

If you have a prefilter on your pump intake you shouldn't even really need the socks... I've never used them and my w/d sump works beautifully.

well its my only mech and where im planning on some messy fish, i want them
