How are everyone's Beani doing?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Lopaka, what does RSP mean? My 4 6 inch Beani are settling in good and yes are pretty mean. I have a variety of pvc and pots and they are doing ok with each other so far. I also have a large convict and a brichardi as dithers which seems to help. Feeding them NLS Thera large pellets.

Where did all the Beani come from? I was out of the loop for a while and wasn't paying attention. I know Rapps is selling a domesticated strain and I think he had some wild and/or F1 a while back? Where else are they coming from? I didn't know Dan was distributing them as well?

You can tell , you're been out of the loop for a while:ROFL:
I can't speak for everyone else, but I acquire mine from a couple of places. Joe in Cali, and Jose in Texas. I have wild from Rio Valuarte and F1's From Rio Baluarte. Both sets are in different tanks, but I refuse to keep them alone. I think thats how you truely create MONSTERS.....
Here's a few more shots of said Beani.....

lucky you because I can only keep mine alone without him killing anything else. Even with him alone he is constantly hitting the glass trying to get the fish that surround him.

From listening to some Beani owners, I heard that you shouldn't have them in a tank with others, because of stress, and that you have to watch what you feed them, and also water conditions had to be perfect all the time, all this from fear of bloat, is this true? From looking at some of the post, it doesn't seem like it is true?

All I can say to that is, pictures don't lie....
I've heard some of the same theorys, and I'm here to tell you that it all falls down to the indvidual fish keeper. I not saying that the theorys are not true, I'm just saying I did everything they say not to do and had great results... So Go Figure!!!!

Polomax24 (Gary) grew out his pair in a community environment. It was all good until the male reached the 9" - 10" mark. It dominated fishes bigger and bulkier. Check out his previous threads.

I grew one in a community tank (Lopaka beani) and it was all good until the istlanum caught up in size and almost killed the beani.

By no means am I saying to just throw caution to the wind. I also learned that every fish is different and that just because someone had an issue with a particular fish doesn't mean I will as well. Trust me, I know about you (Gani) and Gary, and I know that both of you are on top of your game when it comes to fish keeping. As a matter of fact, I got Haits from both of you, but thats another story. I to had a issue with my Beani but it was the opposite. They was doing great in a community tank, and I decided to put in a male Sieboldi in with them for no reason. Now keep in mind, the Sieboldi was half his size and this was the Beani home that I was putting him into and he the Sieboldi had cause so much havoc and beat and had everyone at the top of the tank. Had I not had lids on the tank, I swear everyone would've jump out. So after that incident, that just made me look at the Beani a little bit differently. To let someone smaller then you, come into your house and dominate you and everything else in you house, makes you go HMMMMMM.....
So don't think I'm dismissing your view. I'm just saying......
