How are everyone's Beani doing?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Man, my eyes hurt from that font too. Good info but that font makes it tough to want to read it! I agree with PrettyRicky though to an extent. I have 4 6" Beani (I think they are the Rio Yakqui strain but am only basing that on internet pics and discussions) in a 100g with tons of pvc, clay pots and a couple of dithers and while there is a lot of flaring so far there has been no real fighting. My only caveat is that I have not had them for long but Rapps had them in this type of setup for about 9 months or more.

So how is the font now....

Would you be so kind as to expand on your statement as to agreeing to an extent...

Lets keep the knowledge going...

Only that as far as I've seen thus far the Beani are doing fine in my 'community' setting for them, to that extent I agree. Same can be said of Micropthalmus, I've heard a lot of stories about how they destroy everything but mine have alwys been community cichlids.

Font is much better. Thank you sir!

I've heard the same thing about Micros as well, and I to haven't had an issue with them thus far. I've said it before, that rules are made to be broken or bent and that theirs no set of rules that govern how one should keep he's or her fish. Just guidelines. So thats why I'm not saying my way of keeping Beani are a sure shot, but instead it was just my experience with keeping them and maybe others can rethink the way they keep theirs if they choose. One must also consider that everything isn't for everyone. Like I have issue's with N.Haitiensis, I can't keep them going to save my life. While others have no issue's. I have did everything I read and was told about keeping Haits and now I came to the realization that their out of my league. So just keep doing what works for you all and remember theirs no full proof way to keep Beani....

AND YOUR WELCOME SIR!!!!

By no means am I saying to just throw caution to the wind. I also learned that every fish is different and that just because someone had an issue with a particular fish doesn't mean I will as well. Trust me, I know about you (Gani) and Gary, and I know that both of you are on top of your game when it comes to fish keeping. As a matter of fact, I got Haits from both of you, but thats another story. I to had a issue with my Beani but it was the opposite. They was doing great in a community tank, and I decided to put in a male Sieboldi in with them for no reason. Now keep in mind, the Sieboldi was half his size and this was the Beani home that I was putting him into and he the Sieboldi had cause so much havoc and beat and had everyone at the top of the tank. Had I not had lids on the tank, I swear everyone would've jump out. So after that incident, that just made me look at the Beani a little bit differently. To let someone smaller then you, come into your house and dominate you and everything else in you house, makes you go HMMMMMM.....
So don't think I'm dismissing your view. I'm just saying......

I'm glad that its working out for you. The difference I see is I housed my beani with istlanum's, neet's, salvini's & grammodes. Gary housed his beani with RTMs, and other aggressive cichlids. Your beani from the pics I've seen is housed with semi-aggressive cichlids. That's probably one way of doing it.

Again, I'm happy it works out for you. Keep us posted.

One last thing, do you still have some haitiensis from the batch? I want some :D
