Yes that will be helpful. I would then monitor your ammonia. If the level gets above.5 ppm do a 50% water change. This will drop your ammonia to .25ppm which will cause less damage to your fish and still leave enough ammonia present to cycle your tank.

Keep an eye on nitrites too, once the ammonia starts dropping the nitrites will rise. Nitrites also need to be kept under .25ppm.

I would think the media from the pond would be ok, I would wait till one of these guys says yes or no first. The fact that its an outdoor pond it might contain stuff that you do not want with your aro.

So your saying I should cut a peice of my koi pond filter and just stick it in the rena filter? Where should I put this in which basket bottom? Thanks man

First thing you should do is answer this question!

Do you have any understanding of the nitrogen cycle in an aquarium?

and if not, then get googling!

I'm not sure I agree with the advice of using the filth from the old media to seed the filter if it has been sitting around dead in a bucket for 3 weeks. All you'll be doing is adding more waste to the system which the uncycled filter won't be able to process. The aro will be producing waste even if not eating much, IMO you're better just taking it slowly and letting the filter establish with the small amount of waste the aro is producing, which will gradually increase as you start feeding it more.

If you can get established media from the LFS or from your koi pond that will be far more help than gunk out of an old filter.

I was assuming DC was suggesting getting media from another tank and not that which is now dried up in the bucket. LoL

My koi pond has been running for a while so it's good I will get that foam from koi pond and squeeze it in the tank
But how much should I squeeze ? Also will my Amonia and nitrate and nitrite level go up, ? Or no?

And my koi fish got flukes about 2-3 months ago maybe longer I got some medicine for it not salt but some black powder fish are fully healed all good
So would it harm the aro then? Or no? Thanks

Why don't you just leave tank alone and let it run its cycle. Keep eye on ammonia do partial water change if it spikes high. You are worrying way too much. You're gonna kill that fish. If ammonia spikes above 4ppm do amateur change. Check it again the next day. You may have to do small water changes for a little while to compensate for new tank syndrome. I wouldn't throw dirty media from a pond into a tank with an expensive aro. . The fish can handle it Keep tank aerated well don't feed heavy.
