So I have been dating this gal for about a year and a half and I now live with her in a pretty big foreclosed home that she bought--she's a big time money saver:) I started the fishkeepering hobby Jan 8, 09 and now this hobby is well on its way of being a cichlid breeding business. So my question is.... How the hell do I get her more into what I'm doing?! I've tried and tried and lately she was understanding when I told her I don't want anymore tanks and that I'm completely satisfied...little did I know at the time I would eventually be setting up 3 more tanks (46gal, and 2 10gals) and now I'm considering buying a 125 gallon setup for $125. So right now I'm debating whether or not I should do this because that would be my 7th tank to add to this list: 110gallon, 72gallon bow, 46gallon bow, 20 gallon, and (2) 10gallons. (all but the 72gallon are in the basement so I think this helps since she doesn't have to look at all of these tanks ALL of the time:)

YOU WILL NEVER EVER EVER BE ABLE TO FORCE HER TO LIKE SOMTHING!!!!!

So we have to convince her. see if you can bring her to a fish store and pick a fish.

let her feed it and take care of it and all of that good stuff. o and did i mention that it should be a fish that will grow big in a tank that will be to small so that she will demand her lovely little thing get proper care and you upgrade the tank? yea cus that part is important:D

i went out and bought my girlfriend a small tank with a figure 8 puffer and she loves the little thing named it Bug (because of the eyes) and dotes on the little guy she even went from feeding it dried brine shrimp and not likeing the idea of killing things to feed it to droping in ghost shrimp for her little guy to totally destroy.

good luck

Set up a big tank with a baby porcupine puffer.
No one can resist the face.
NO ONE.

My wife hated the idea of a fish tank due to noise, smell, a natural dislike of animals and tanks didn't meet her ultra high fasion standards. Nor did she approve of multiple tanks.

That set me a challenge.

So I made a silent, clean and super fasionable large tank that could hold lots of fish. I chose SA cichlids because they are colourful enough to WOW girls and still entertain the boys. Even the snobbiest of her friends say 'WOW' when they see it and that sold her. Now she calls all the fish by name and talks to them every night. She cried more than I did when my earth eater died. Big turnaround.

try puffers and rays mine got ore into the hobby when i did that now shes always on here and craigs list lookin for 100+ gallon tanks i swear its going to work

My GF loves puffers, and it seems a lot of girls do.
Every time i see some girls/women at the pet store, the puffer tanks are allways a hit !

she's my girlfriend for now:) Wow that truly is a monster tank! What size is that?! I'm setting up a 10 gallon for her in her bedroom on a nice desk I just got. It will house the painted tetras and corydoras she doesn't want me to sell that are currently in a tank in the basement. She sounds like she is getting excited because I'm setting it up exactly the way she wants-black sand, pearlescent plastic plants, and a rainbow cave. I now have to move all of my small tanks up into my bedroom due to potential electrical issues which will definitely make her feel better about this whole fish breeding operation:D

I guess the easiest way is to get her the fish she likes.

I'm female and I'm much more into fish than my husband.
Managed to convince him with cute Stingrays, Gulper Cats and a Fire Eel that begs for food.

First off Ill agree with aldiaz33 If you arent married its a dangerous game.Another member in a similar situation got kicked out and the GF let all the fish die.Might want to put a ring on her finger!:naughty:

Second if youre doing cichlid breeding keep it in the fishroom.Any tanks in the living areas of the house set up as showtanks.Bare cichlid breeding and growout tanks are a major turn off to anyone that isnt obsessed with fish.Challenge yourself to make any tanks in the living areas stunning to look at.And involve her in the decisions on stocking them.
If she loves you shell be supportive of your interests, but be reasonable about the tanks that are outside the fishroom.Having a desinated area for your hobby is not an unreasonable expectation in a relationship.
