How do I move a 2+ pound, 13 inch fish?

I've heard a great way is to get an old t-shirt, and tie a knot in the end, so only the bottom is open, use your hand to gently persuade the fish into the tshirt, then just lift it out of the water and into your bucket. I personally haven't had a fish big enough to try this on, but it sounds logical to me.

Great tip!

I wouldn't recommend using a shirt, bucket, or towel. Any object like that will freak them out, causing them to trash about, especially wrapping them in a shirt. You'll end up with torn fins and missing scales if he's a fighter. I've had best results with very large, clear bags. Since the bag is clear, they won't see it as well as a bucket or towel...less freaking out. Guide them into the bag, then transfer the bag with a little bit of water into the container.

Or, you could net him first, then transfer him into a bag, all while he's in the water. Trying to move him out of the water will be bad. I've done the bag trick with a 23" aro and all went fine.

Another strange thing i've noticed is that fish seem so much larger when they are out of the water... has anyone else noticed this?

In any event, since he'll be the last cichlid i'll keep (at least for a good while) i think i should keep him - i'm not completely decided, but i'm leaning this way.

I have recently moved a 20" tiger shovel nose... using two nets and a large cooler. this worked pretty well, but I also like the idea of keeping him

keep him keep him keep him !!!!!! who can only live with fancy gold fish????

coral to garbage bag. Then place in cooler. Moved a 24"+ Black Shark doing it thing weighed at least 3 to 4 lbs

there are a lot of threads in here about moving mucjh larger fish...

I would keep him, though.

I honestly do want to keep him, but he doesn't fit with my collection anymore. I appreciate the peace and tranquility, grace and beauty that the fancy goldfish bring me, and i could really use the 75 gallons. i dunno. i'm flip flopping here.
