how expensive is too expensive 4 fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm only a noob to the hobby so I'd only spend under $100 right now. Maybe later that will change, but right now I'm just too scared to lose fish. I'll wait until I'm way more experienced until I shell out $500 on one fish.

i [paid $60 for my 7 inch silver arowana and $40 for my 7 inch gar and i felt that they were too expensive, but i did it because they were both beauties. I'd never pay anything $100 for a fish. they're not worth it. it's not even a question of affordability. it's just that i have a mental price point for fish.

$200 is about the limit, anything more and id rather put it toward a larger tank.

i will spend as much as i have

50 bucks

I am pretty crazy though. I would drive 4-5hrs and shop around for weeks to beat a deal on a local fish that was high priced.

i have been able to get a stock list that is probably the rarest in my state as far as I have seen publicly, doing this.

I just bought my first ray for over 100 and I would have never done that if it was not for my wife falling in love with them at a LFS.

For a very rare Victorian.....that I really wanted....well the answer would be "too much".

For anything else....probably $50-75

I dont really have a limit. If I can afford it and really, really want it and it doesn't come out of my beer/bill money....I'll get it.

See this is my problem as well. beer/bills come first. I am close to being comfortable in my life but realize it is my life and want to be doing things and not have to worry about my fish. Cause I worry. My fish now are my kids. I some times buy them food instead of myself. Like I said close to being comfortable.

So how much do you value the hobby so to speak? How much are you willing to drop on an awesome purchase before you start thinking "whoah that $2k would really beef up my home audio system" etc etc.

I'm still in my college year. I do have a lot of limits. But if i were an ultra rich person(who's money leaks from his pants), i would buy any fish that will catch my attention and not let me sleep.

IDk about you mate, but my fishies are my blingies!:naughty:

$100. Eventhough i own 2 that coast more than that i did have to bight my lip to shell out the money.
