My 88 yr old mom just tested positive for Covid-19. She is in a nursing home and they've been doing a great job with all their residents for the past 2.5 months as they put visiting restrictions in place earlier than the state did. She briefly ran a slightly elevated fever for one day but otherwise she's been doing great.

I think it's just unavoidable that those the live in congregant facilities will eventually contract this disease. Hopefully my mom continues to do well. I really miss my visits to her but understand the reasons for prohibiting visitors. I call every day and they also notify me of any changes.

I hope she fares well and recovers quickly My father in law had it. It lasted almost 4 weeks but he did just fine.

Just topped 10,000 cases here in Panama.

Health Alert - U.S. Embassy Panama City, Panama (May 22, 2020)

Event:  COVID-19 Situation Report and Reminders

On May 21, Panama’s Ministry of Health (MINSA) confirmed 10,116 cases of COVID-19.

MINSA reminds citizens and residents of Panama that staying at home, not touching your face, and washing your hands frequently are the best means of prevention against COVID-19.  It also requires the use of masks, even homemade ones, when in public.

During the nationwide movement restrictions, the Embassy encourages everyone to prepare accordingly.  Take the opportunity to stock up on any medicines and food supplies you may need to shelter in place in your homes for an extended period of time.

Starting May 18, exercises such as bicycling, running, and skating are now permissible if done within one kilometer of your home, with a mask, and inside your two-hour window. Sundays will remain a day of total quarantine.

Wow, that's amazing! We aren't seeing anywhere near those infection levels. Since this began, we've only had about 12 deaths per million in our county. Panama looks like a nightmare.

In Fresno county life is ramping back up again, and I was able to get a new shed built this week.

The concrete was already there, but I spent days moving things around before and after.
Now I need awnings, gates, and new doghouses. Uncle Sam gave us $2400 in aid money we don't really need. I'll be spitting it back into the local economy at Lowes.

Lots of folks here are wearing masks in stores. It's become the social norm at Walmart, Lowes, etc.

Today's paper is reporting 100k in the US have died of Covid-19.
I think that the numbers are stretched by the media for drama.
But nonetheless, a lot of folks have suffered and it's not over.

So far, 4 more have died in the county, bringing the known total to only 16 & it seems to be growing very slowly here.
This may well be low due to undiscovered deaths among the underground population (of illegals, which is huge here due to the farming and construction biz.)

Our official population is about 1 million, but the unknowns may be 200k+ people, most with generally minimal health care.

I think we'll be finding at least a few bodies in farmhouses, chicken coops and barns.
Every week there are bodies discovered on county farms, but most from murder.

But the hospitals seem to be doing a tremendous job, and locally most known cases are recovering.

It's been hot here too, with today topping 107F expected.

100 k is shocking, with any hope the numbers have been inflated. Either way, a massive loss of life for your country to endure. So sad.

On a more positive note, this virus has helped me realize the things in my personal life that are truly important, and those that are truly not.

Stay safe everyone, peace out.

My mother who is in her 60’s plans to go to the beach on Tuesday with her sisters and wear her mask on the way there but not when she gets on the beach. She may be a grown woman who is capable of making her own decisions but she will not be leaving the house if I can stop it.

It has been a great time for reflection and self improvement for many people :D
