How long for bio-spira to work?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
just keep the stuff somewaht frozen or chilled before you dump it into your tank and you will be good..............bio spira took out all the thinking............just open packet and dump into tank!!!!!!!!!:)

WHAT<<<<???? quick answer is no......just dump the packet into you tank......tada!!!! "supposed" to be instant bio filtration.........not instant but helps a whole hell of a lot...........You can skip the whole cycle, I did it on one of my 1st tanks and it worked great = no fish losses!!!!:woot:
WRONG!!!! you do have to have a source of ammonia or it will die!!!!!! read the package. if you are going to do fishless cycle you have to add ammonia. This product is desinged to use with fish though.. just like if you take all of your fish out of the tank for a week all your BB will die from starvation

I guess I did not stipulate that i had already added my fish, w/o a proper cycle (noob back then) and THEN added the bio spira, which then I guess did whatever it does and kept my fish alive, and are all thriving!!!:) :)

AND yes i did just dump the packet into the tank as stated on the packet in not so endearing terms!!!

sorry if i didn't state i had fish in my tank when i i did what i did!!!:)

when i got it, it was cold. On the drive home I put it on the floor under a ac vent so it would stay reletivly cold. So I got home and emptied 1 packet over my bioballs in my sump and the other in water in tank. As of now theres still no change in params. Did I just waste 40 dollars on biospira???????

I just called the guy at the lfs and he told me to put put fish in there rite now??? I was like WTF. He said that if theres no fish by-product the biospira will die?? is this true? Do I need to add like feeder goldfish?

I NEED HELP NOW!!!!!!!

You need fish to add ammonia to the tank, ammonia is what the bacteria eat, so if theres not fish in the tank then put some in there!

My ammonia is really high so do I still need to keep adding it?

EDIT:

just tested here are results

Ammonia- 8ppm
NitrItes- .25ppm
NitrAtes- 10ppm

I think this is good, so how long till its cycled?

no you have plenty of ammonia in the tank.. just wait a few days and see if it changes. once it gets to 0 on the nitrites and ammonia then add you fish.. by then you will have enough BB to keep up with the fish waste
