How many Oscars in a 240? Stocking suggestions?

Driftwood, lots of drift wood.

In my big tank I have a tree stump in the centre of the tank, and recon it is the best thing you can do for looks.

What are you doing for filtration if you don't mind me asking?

I would say 5 or 6, What type of oscars are you looking at getting, wild caught or domestic?

10 is just to much in my opinion. Os can get up to 12" with basic care. 4 in my opinion would still leave you a bit of room for dithers

In response to the filtration question:

The tank is sumped. 1200gph through filter socks, carbon, and biofiltration. I also do a weekly 80% water change. I've never had water quality issues.

The oscars would all be tank raised. For ethical reasons I like leaving the wild ones in the wild.

It's hit or miss on doing O's in large groups. I would add alot more wood to help break the line of sight plus I had better luck doing females only when trying to get a group.

I would stay at 5 actually i would do 2 and some other fish. They are prone to HITH and can be caused by not only bad water quality but stress. Its a big tank but O's get big too imo better to give them more room and go with some other sa's like a few different acaras (yellow, blue, and port) some cool catfish like a bolt and either an L25,24 or 600 pleco

Good luck man very cool tank

I knew this thread would result in oscar bashing, but i reality a school of oscars is one of the coolest thing to do in a big tank, especially if you eco it up with a nice driftwood setup.

Id go fow six, three pair each of tigers, reds and lemons.

I think it has just become fashionable to bash O's. I also think 6 or maybe 7 would be great with nothing else in the tank but drift wood and some rocks. If you know for sure you would never slack on water changes or filter maintenance you might get away with a few bottom dwellers. I guess I do not know about the possibility of aggression problems. I have never had any O's that were aggressive with each other or other tank mates to the point of being a problem. Other than eating anything that they could choke down.

Good luck and post pictures!
