I dare you to find me a public vet that will treat my cobras if they got sick. I think that if a problem presents itself with something of this caliber then the owner need to fix it themselves because it is almost impossible to find good herp vets (much less ones that will take venomous). This way you do not need to have thousands of dollars laying around just in case.

Furthermore, if proper husbandry is taking place then there will not be any problems that present themselves.

Maybe you should just stop posting until you are no longer high and grow up a little more.

Responsibility and Research FTW!!!

Its funny how mature and more responsible the high ones are. Also more well spoken and accurate in theory and fact.
Ill make 1 call and have you a cobra vet. As long as your certified to have it.
Buying an animal and relying on it not getting sick is the definition of retardation.
My maine coon cat could'nt urinate and started spraying on my house plants. 1 kidney stone cost me $500. Probably from the 9 lives gourmet catfood i give him every morning. I guess thats the mind-set here. Buy impulsively and worry later. SO not fair to the animal.

Yeah seriously, Salaries are determined on how responsible said person is in their field. Hences why managers make more than employees. This only mildly cordinates to HOW people are going to raise there pets. Same reason why McD's employee shouldnt blow a paycheck on a caymen. It leads to irresponsibility.
Comparing a gila to a dog is apples to oranges. But we will try it. Im not going to run statistics but if every home that had a dog was replaced by a gila the death rate would X1000. Dogs are a man-made domesticated creature, whos liability relays on the owner. Compared to a "instinctually violent venomous giant reptile". Comparing my frenchie to a bobcat is asinine as well.
I dont care about your life, But Im glad you can take care of your family. But if you had a Gila, It would put your son at risk. Comparing a Gila to a Son is unjust. Money has everything to do with caring. Where would your wife and son be right now with no money? If your sons starts bleeding out his eyes, what do you do with no money? You talk in circles. Id kill anybody to keep my family safe, I cant say the same for a lizard.
And for the 5th time Im not talking bout housing and foods. Im talking exotic pet. And you keep comparing the responsibility of a Son to a Girl monster. Not even remotely comparable.
u dont care about my life. congrats! i could give two s***s about urs and wether or not u care about mine. I tryd to make a comparrisson that ur small feeble mind could understand but apparently i didnt articulate it well enough(ill translate so u can understand, I didnt write it well enough)

Money has nothing to do with caring, but apparently u must be a trust fund baby or at least raised by one for ur luv of money is astounding.

Spend some time with less cash and ull realise money isnt everything in this world.

Making the dangerous animals cost more does not, let me repeat, does NOT cull out the irresponsible. i have met many people with more money than brains. All it does is cull out those of us that have a steady job, can care for an exotic(have the know how/desire) and make it so that moron trust fund babies can get it.

Here is an example for u. Ill try to use small words. If Guy A has a decent job but is not rich, and he see's a snake he wants, he has a decent chance of researching it(not always but it is likly) before buying it, due to the fact he doesnt have money to waste. He has to plan every purchase to be sure not to go over budget.

Guy B has a ton of extra cash. He goes to a reptile show. There he finds a $500 HOT reptile. He thinks its cool. He buys it on the spot.

Now, who do u think will care for the reptile? Guy A who did his research, knows what its capable of knows what he needs to do? Or Guy B who doesnt know a thing about the venom he just bought?

One, ur in PA. Everyone is certified to own one. Not everyone should but its possible.

Two, most vets will not, NOT, take a venomous reptile. Few even around me will take a reptile. the only one that will is a nightmare that no person should go to.

I have had my permit for a while now and have been working with hots for over 5 years. I have worked in an exotic vets office, at a museum as the head animal care taker, and at a zoo. I am currently studying to be a herpetologist and working on my first (hopefully of many) book. I think that all of this qualifies me as a"responsible keeper" but it certainly does not make me rich.

^OWNED

Im 23. I grew up without a mother, and my dad did more cocaine than Eric Clapton. My grandmother was the only one who ever gave me any concept of morality. Thats why everything I do is to keep a smile on that womens face. I had no parents. Grew up street wise. Graduated high school, dropped out of college, and have been operating my own freelance design/ fine art business. I live in a studio apartment. Drive a BMW. My girlfriend is one of the top Cosmetologists at Alta. I made something from nothing, dont tell me ive never had it hard. I do appologize for the unnappropriate comment, but it was just to prove a point. I know you dont care, I just thought i would share. Family, Money, and herbs mean everything comeing from where im from.
Herps arent my thing. The only real point i was trying to make here was that rare animals health should not be compromised. Im sure you can agree with this.
Snakeguy- Thats great man. Thats a wonderful field to work in. Im sure your an excellent herp keeper and wouldnt have any creature out of your ability.

glad things turned out good for u.

in red, the animals health should not be comprimised ur right. but not having a ton of extra cash does not mean u can not care for it. and if u think about it, ull realise im right

Man this thread went south fast , here is my opinion to rile up more feathers.

an animal that cost a lot of $ can easily be cared for with a decent amount of time or money . there's snakes than can be cared for as easy as ball pythons yet there rare and cost a massive amount of money . if a person of moderate income manages to get one why does it depend on his income level to determine if he can care for it?

Im not saying either income bracket is more able to care for animals but its on a person to person basis . there's some high income people who only see there animals as something cool and to show off. and there's some from the other income bracket who do the same . lets not judge people in whole groups .

I myself am currently unemployed yet i keep a decent amount of reptiles and kept even more when i was a teen making very little money . Where any of my animals mistreated or neglected?? NO i cared for them in a proper way and never skimped on there necessities.A frugal herper is not a bad thing .

Btw lets not lump all Pot smokers with this guy , many are decent and literate people(not saying this guy is or isn't) like i said b4 lets not judge a group by a few peoples actions .

right....i dont want one, i personally dont think they r remotely attractive and nothing venemous attracts me.

im not taking sides but seeing as no one actually listened to my point of view i will reitterate it.

over here people dont check that u have the licence before u take it away, which is therefore the reason i PERSONALLY believe that in the UK hots should b a damn site more expensive, maybe unless u actually prove u have a licence.

over here the only wild snake we have is the adder and i cant remember the last time they were seen.

now if someone that had no idea about hots got one and was bitten....wtf are they going to do? i doubt they would b willing to pay 3k for a bottle of antivenin(sp) ...our hospitals arnt equipped to cope with venemous....hence the reason for licencing.

as for money = good care and how everyones lives are worse than everyone elses....grow up.
iv got a disabled daughter and because of this i cant work and i am on benefits.
this to me means i have extra time to give to my animals, they r all cared for extremely well and cleaned out regularly...because i have the time.
to care for it hardly costs money.
alot of my stuff except heat and some food is free.
i dont go out, i hardly drink...yes i smoke ciggs but i do need a vice lol
i spend my money on my daughter, the animals and then me.

i put a little bit of money aside each week just in case an emergency arrises....cant b too careful.

i am a responsible reptile keeper and im on no money what so ever lol
