People spend vast amounts of money on all sorts of hobby stuff, I don't think fish are any different. Try getting into those remote helicopters...thousands of dollars into one, one crash and it's all gone lol.

To use a less pricey example, I once paid 150 bucks for an Amphiuma salamander (they're very hard to find in Canada). It was probably "worth" about 50 bucks, however I wanted one, had the money and was not likely to find it again (been 3 years since I've seen another for sale). I knew I was being overcharged, but had to balance that against the fact I really wanted one and wasn't likely to see them anytime soon.
Cheers Simon

Although it seems like "a lot" of money, it's all relative to your means and lifestyle. For some, that could represent half a years salary. For others it could be a week's.

I know people who head to the bar/club and drop a couple hundred bucks every weekend. I know people who've spent thousands on a purse. What about a trip to the casino? Are these any better uses for money? All in the eye of the beholder.

I would spend 40k on a watch, so 5k for a exotic fish would be reasonable if I really wanted it. You only live once.

You missed my point and I dont think you care to hear it anyways. No worries. Enjoy your fish. Post pics and let us know what it is when you get it. :)

It's funny how we value things. I personally wouldn't spend more than a couple hundred bucks on a watch. I'll pay for quality, but I won't pay for "name" or brand on an item that I consider simply functional. A 40k dollar watch tells the exact same time as a 200 dollar one.

Ironically, you say you will pay for quality but you won't pay for "name", yet the "name" brand that I would spend 40K (US not Can) is a brand you probably never even heard of. haha. Different strokes for different folks.

Here's the watch...

N-e-way back on topic

If you dont feel comfortable with spending that much you could always try the "ill pay this in cash now or nothing" way. Thats something i learned from my grandfather. He'd go into a car dealership or even when he bought a house. He'd tell them "I'll pay you X amount right now in cash right now. So yes or no?" This worked out for him. He'd get what he wanted at a price he was wanting to pay.

When someone sees that much cash up front its pretty hard for them to turn it down.

How is that ironic? My point is that a 40,000 dollar watch tells the time in the same way as a 200 dollar watch, which for me is the only thing that I care a watch does. If the person is using it as a symbol of wealth rather than a functional timepiece, it makes more sense.

Same way I spent 800 bucks on a tiny brown Aussie lungfish, which makes many people (especially non-MFKers) shake their heads. They just don't understand the value I place on it, to them it's simply a small, brown fish.

All depends on the person though. As I don't have 40,000 bucks, spending it on a watch seems grotesquely obscene. However, If I had huge amounts of money, it could be a simple impulse purchase.

If money does not matter then just buy it rather than burn your money on something your not gonna enjoy as much.
