how much would you pay for this blue dempsey????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry man, but that is just a plain regular JD. It looks nothing like an EBJD. Probably not worth more then $15 if that. Just curious, but did you order it from the link that listed showing the juvy?

I’m not saying anyone here is wrong… nor siding that anyone is right…

But I have raised a good number of Blue Dempseys as well as regular Dempseys. In the process of doing so I have raised a few standard Dempseys that had a tremendous amount of Blue spangles and look very similar to the pic… and I’ve raised a few Blue Dempseys that had a darker / duller overall appearance that looked similar to this picture…

That being said… it’s probably worth more than your typical standard Dempsey, as if it is a standard it is a very beautiful one… but I would not pay as much as I would a brighter colored Blue Dempsey, as it has poor coloration for a Blue…

As someone else mentioned, I’d like to see a few more pics of this fish in different lighting or in different moods…

I see it as questionable enough to ask for more pics… but throwing out “you got ripped off” comments at this point is still presumptuous and rude…

A bit more…

Most of the adult Blue Dempseys I’ve raised have gone through, what I call, an ugly stage. This is usually from around 4~5”… or shortly after sexual maturity…

Is this a Blue Dempsey?

That is a picture of my biggest Blue when he was in his “ugly stage”

Here are a couple more recent picture of him

Also note the drastic color differences in the same fish only a couple months apart…

nc_nutcase, how old was the dempsey when he went through his 'ugly phase'? I just assumed that since the OP said his fish is at least a year and a half old that it would be full grown and displaying mature coloration.

me thinks to prove your point you need more pics, no offense but i think that is at best a very nice blue JD, the EBJD are much much brighter, he may have looked like one as a youth but definitely doesn't now
