I was just wondering how does everyone feed their cichla while they are gone on vacation? Cause I will be leaving mid December to Hawaii along with my family and the person that usually feeds my fish is on vacation as well. So im kinda stuck. Im only gonna be gone for the week any suggestions or comments?

how big are they i went away for thanksgiving week mines are in between 4-6" i left feeders in the tank that was about meal size not bite size so go with bigger feeders that will fill them up and you should be good, besides if your cichla is on the bigger size they can live with not being feed for 2 days or so!

two days or so? fish can live without being fed for much longer than that. they do it all the time in the wild, as they do not find meals everyday. as for your large cichlids im sure someone will chime in

I left my cichlid tank this summer for a week with no food. No cichla but everyone made it fine. Jag, Gt, JD, geo and 2 pictus

just my opinion starve your self for a week and tell me how you feel

How big are they? If they aren't real small, they will be just fine for a week without food.

i'm not saying that its healthy, im just saying that it can be done and your fish will survive. i would much rather leave my fish alone for a few days then leave them in the hands of someone who has no idea about feeding fish. just my opinion

still i would be on the safe side my cichla at 4-6" tend not to devour all feeders at once so in my case i would feel comfortable leaving for a week with them being well feed to brush off the vacation time.
