How to feed you cichla during vacation?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How large are the Cichla in question and I will pm my answer as not to get involved in the current debate.. It is not one I choose to give my reasoning for why I do what I do and am successful at it..

I do agree with Mjuniorc on the "if they spit up" I lost a whole tank to a spit up silverside.... And I was there to change the water immediately and everything... So...

HMMMMMM....... IMO, bad idea to put feeders in your TANK, while your gone for a week.... REASON...: cichla tend to EAT and EAT... greedy lil bast***'s!!!
and if you put enough or alot of feeders in youre tank. because you wanna make sure it will last until you come back from vacation, and for some reason 1,2, or 3 of your CiChLA decide to EAT to MUCH that they can HANDLE... what happens next... (if you wanna compare HUMANS, INFANTS & FISH ) for example what do you HUMANS do if they eat to MUCH that they cant handle..... you get NATIOUS and then SICK........ & then THROW UP!!!
so imagine what undigested feeders do to your water when THROWN UP... HMMMMMMM...... SPIKES in all AREAS of WATER PURITY... and for a WEEK...? what if this happens the secound day of his vacation and he has NO CLUE of whats going on with his PRIZED CICHLA...... RESULTING IN DEATH WHEN HE COMES HOME WITH SMELLY STAGNANT WATER.....:(

JUST my 2PENNYS... and an EXPIERIENCE that happened to me... but i caught it before any FATALITIES.... SO... GOOD LUCK....:D

i would feed them extra good for about 3 or 4 days to they really fatten up, feed them right before you go along with a large water change and leave them with out food OR feed them really good for a few days and leave them with feeders and do a large water but Mjunior has a point. i would prob go with option one.

Shouldn't compare humans to fish.

But if you would wanna compare humans to fish just for the hell of it. Humans can go a week or more with out food as long as they have water. Look at Ghandi (sorry if I spelt his name wrong). And there are lots of people that fast for toxin cleansing. So if you compare humans to fish. The fish should be fine.

depends how long im gone.
if its not long,i just dump a load of feeders in my tank.
so much that all you can see is feeders. :D
make sure your filter can handle it though.
if im gone for long like a month,i get my maid to feed.
