HMMMMMM....... IMO, bad idea to put feeders in your TANK, while your gone for a week.... REASON...: cichla tend to EAT and EAT... greedy lil bast***'s!!!
and if you put enough or alot of feeders in youre tank. because you wanna make sure it will last until you come back from vacation, and for some reason 1,2, or 3 of your CiChLA decide to EAT to MUCH that they can HANDLE... what happens next... (if you wanna compare HUMANS, INFANTS & FISH ) for example what do you HUMANS do if they eat to MUCH that they cant handle..... you get NATIOUS and then SICK........ & then THROW UP!!!
so imagine what undigested feeders do to your water when THROWN UP... HMMMMMMM...... SPIKES in all AREAS of WATER PURITY... and for a WEEK...? what if this happens the secound day of his vacation and he has NO CLUE of whats going on with his PRIZED CICHLA...... RESULTING IN DEATH WHEN HE COMES HOME WITH SMELLY STAGNANT WATER.....:(

JUST my 2PENNYS... and an EXPIERIENCE that happened to me... but i caught it before any FATALITIES.... SO... GOOD LUCK....:D

this is also another problem if you dump feeders.
never seen my cichla overeat and throw up,but i have seen other fish do it.

joey,im curious.

depends how long im gone.
if its not long,i just dump a load of feeders in my tank.
so much that all you can see is feeders. :D
make sure your filter can handle it though.
if im gone for long like a month,i get my maid to feed.

Yeah that's the solution, we should all get our maids or butlers to feed our fish

I don't feed my Cichla but once a week when there larger then 8''. I read were you said 6'' cichla and LMB that could be a problem. But I would starve them out for a week also. I don't see any problems at all with starving them out for a week. But I agree with all the CREAM members advice. I am not sure what Tongue Pm'ed you but I trust everything that he advises so you should be good.

IMO if you feed your fish well up to the time you leave. Then give them a really good feeding and do a water change just prior to leaving (the night before) and all other paramters of your tank are fine and your fish are healthy and not small you will be fine. I have left my fish 3-5 days at a time using this method and never had a food or water related death.

i just leave my fish that what happens in the wild there are food shortages at certain times just feed them lots befor u go and the day u leave or day b4 do a 40% change 2 keep them fresh 4 a bit

but the maid part is interesting.... i wonder if she gets WET....!!!:naughty:

thanks for everyones opinion!!! I think imma go with...Keep them well feed through the week, the day just before i leave, toss in some Rosey Reds (not more then the usual) and do a 40% water change. Then the day I leave, give the usual amount of pellets and check parameters, and kiss each one of them goodbye, til i come back!!! LOL.......thanks for everyones comments and opinions!!! stay C.R.E.A.M......Oh yeah and I'll be Pbass fishing in HAWAII!!! I'll be sure to take pictures!!!ahahahaha
