  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Actually, you are right.
Let me tell you I've caught and seen an amazing assortment of
plecos here orlando. I caught a 24" royal a few months ago that was the most beautiful cat I've ever seen. The thing was huge and I wanted to keep it so bad but didn't have a big enough tank. :(

Other than that, all I've seen are jewl cichlids and pink convicts.
But I really want snakheads, peacock bass, jags, oscars, red devils, and canal tarpon and snook. But hey, I have to apreciate what I have.
I'll move down to Miami one day when I have enough money.
But before that I'll keep complaning. :grinno:

What bait did you use for the pleco ?.

I cant get them to bite. Have dropped hook baited with shrimp-earthworms inch from their mouth and no interest at all.

Hooked a snakehead weeks ago it kept going and tore my line .

Blanched cucumber, it was the only pleco I caught on hook and line.
All others were by snagging or with hand. :)

Great thanks never tried that but will take some next time I go by pleco canal .

lol yes its funny that the baby plecos can be caught by hand/net.

Its a big one I want to catch but wont snag it the cucumber sounds like an idea.

Actually I caught a few 15 inchers with hand.
Just sneak up on them in shallow water and grab their tail and hold on hard lol. It's easier when they are inside their caves gauding eggs. Just make sure to return them to the same spot. Also, it's hard getting them to bite on hook and line.
Just because I caught a pleco with cucumber doesn't mean you will.
I've tried it before on them with little success.

I was also surprised you didn't know the name of a largemouth bass.
As FL is the largemouth bass capital of the world. What do you usually catch down there louie?

i live in hollywood but used to fish in miami lakes.all i really caught were oscars and peacock bass.i recently went to a canal edge and dropped a line with a small hook and bread, pulled up chocolate cichlids.

When I went down in June, I ended up catching a nice sized 18 in pleco-snagged it, and fished out a 2ft gar (not sure if its a fl or spotted or what) but anyways if you plan on putting them in your tank let me warn you that both of these had fish lice and what looked like leeches on them!

I am no expert but I find the neatest cichlids and unusual tropicals are found by structures ,edge of canals and by those pipes that connect canals and over hang tree's .

In other words not out in open water. Thats why you caught the chocolate cichlids .

Have you ever hit the kendall horse country area canals? I went to plant nursery while back there and stopped to look at the canals. Lots of tropicals and what looked like African zebra cichlids (yellow/red) . They certainly werent small red devils .

Lol yes natives I dont know that well .

I think you need a boat to catch those monster LMB . I fish from shore . You can easily catch big peacock bass off shore .

I usually fish canals or lake edges by tree's,etc.

I have caught Mayans -PB- Oscars- Jags - Talapia (never Mozambique) - acara- fire mouths (isolated "marsh") - and catfish .

I have seen but never caught snake head (got away) red devils- snook -tarpon- plecos- clown loaches jumbo -

My first fish here was a huge jag thought it was a sunfish or bass hybrid than I started to learn about cichlids- http://img5.imageshack.us/i/jagi.jpg/

I catch and release everything .
