Hydrocynus sp. Tiger fish clarification

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
not sure why people keep saying we have hydrocynus brevis. brevis is found in Sudan according to William Eschmeyer catalogue of fish. No tiger fish have been imported from that country or any Eastern African countries for that matter. All come from Congo early in the year, then Nigeria this time of the year.

Forskahlli is a current valid species and seperate from Vittatus, and goliath. There are probably a few undescribed species, or not updated. For the time being we can go with physicial descriptions and leave scientific names out.

Hydrocynus vittatus we all agree on
hydrocynus goliath we all agree looks just like the 6 feet adults
hydrocynus "slender body" with dark stripes, smaller head, I would call forskahlli. this fish does not grow past 15" and that takes a long time. and will look really slender compared to a standard vittatus at that point, mark my words. Notice it may even be a tail biter.
Hydrocynus "big eye" I've seen a dozen or 2 come in with Goliaths, mixed, this fish swims on the bottom, with bigger eyes, white tipped paired fins, longer face, dont' know what it will look like when larger.
