I.D for CA TX Cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looks like a Cyano in my limited experience. The color may be lighter only because you've got him on white gravel and he's new. I bet he'd color up quick on black substrate, they try to 'blend' their base color. Dark gravel will make his color stand out better. (My thoughts anyway).

Here is some new pictures, I took them with the aquarium lights off and just used flash on a 8MP camera.

Even without the lights on, the spots still seem blue.

Hmmm, as I google up pictures of Texas Cichlids all the juvenile ones seem to have blue spots? Just wondering....Is it hard to get a hold of a true Cyano?

If it matters I used auto color on the pictures in photoshop. The fish is much lighter in person, than this greenish yellow color.

You definitely have a Cyano. The main key in identifying the difference in the 2 species seems to be the "worming" of the blue or green scales around the mouth and between the eyes. Here is my 13" Cyano Texas and his girlfriend. He has a few battle scars but I think you can still see there is no pearling in between the eyes in the last picture.
