I HATE college

All of those stories are at least 10-20 years old.

thats the point I was making with my post and examples of my coworkers.

the job market is getting more and more competitive every day it seems.

here in Ontario Canada, the only options for those without college or university are retail/fast food or landscaping. thats it.

and none pay a 'living wage' ie enough to live on your own. they pay minimum wage or just over it.

thats the harsh reality out there.

even jobs that would would not expect to have to have 'peices of paper for' do.

eg. I work for regional goverment. to be hired on as a line cook you still need certifications and certificates.

everything these days needs some form of diploma/certificate/degree etc.

except retail/fast food or landscaping.

good luck with whatever you chose, but I would strong consider toughing it out.

its hard enough out there WITH an education. its even harder without.

Dude I know A LOT of guys out here that make way more than 100K and never went to a community college!

Me too, and one multi-millionaire!! School is over rated. It pumps you full of information, but doesn't necessarily show you how to think! And BTW, I graduated with a college degree!

Sorry but I have to totally disagree with you there. The route I took to get where I am involved no education except the school of life and hard knocks.

I have to say find your passion, find your dream and then go for it.

I quote Goethe "Whatever you can do or dream you can.... BEGIN IT boldness has Genius, and Power Magic in it!"

By no means am I saying school is not good, rather I am saying it not the absolute and most certainly success can be obtained without formal education.

I like to say if there is no chance of failure if you step out into the business world YOU ARE NOT TAKING ENOUGH RISKS.

I have found that many people who have a school education for a B.A. actually have a tragic flaw. They complicate the simple so that they then can take credit for simplifying the complicated. :grinno:

This post has turned into something that it was not intended to be. It's getting off track. It's always interesting that such a topic can stir emotions and turn into a battle of "Us against them."

I'm sick of high school too...... people dont know the things we have to go through >.<"

Play the game!!! Get that stupid paper to hang on the wall, and do what ever you like. if you don't doors will be shut in you face, fair? no, but thats life, its your choice!!!

true. the thing is, everyone knows someone who didn't get an education and yet still has a great job.

I know several.

but they are all 10-15 years older than me, and were competiting in a totally different (ie much less competitive) job market back then.

that is the problem. and the reality.

Getting a "job" and starting a business are two very different things!
There is just as much opportunity today in the business world as 10-15 years ago if not more so. More people = more demand for products and services!
