Wow just got to this thread. I see my name being thrown around, lol. ;)

Anyways yes, I do have my adults on sand and ceramic tiles but all my babies are kept in tubs lined with paper towels. Sand is such a debatable topic but if you follow some guidelines it can work. I like to change mine monthly so yeah, it can be costly but I use sifted play sand which is much cheaper then the bags of "reptile sand" they sell at pet stores and it's safe once cleaned of large pieces of silt. Leopard geckos do like to dig so it's nice to provide sand for that purpose. One thing you definitely have to have and that’s a moist hide for them to shed in because sand can and will stick to their toes which can cause issues. And one more thing: never, ever, ever keep babies on sand!

Yeah mine love to at least. I have lots of rock work in their enclosures and when I add new sand it sometimes fills in some of the caves. They have to dig some of the sand out if they want to fit back inside. It's a nice activity to pass the time I guess. :D

What the hell are they on in the wild?Slate rock or something or dirt or what?I kept and bread mine on sand for years with no problems and coura saw some it effected. That means it could go either way.Ive seen pics of it happening to beards so I know it could happen but I think its rare.I think its rare if the temps and set up are correct. How can you tell me that trying to recreate its natural habitat as close as possible is not putting the animal first, dont give me that crap.Their are risks in life and Im not saying to put some birds of prey or foxes in with it.In the wild do they just go lay their eggs on a rock someplace or do they dig into sand or dirt?Im not saying I used play sand or anything because I would think its a bit abrasive but maybe not, however I used the fine powdery stuff.Anyways,it worked for over 7 years or so for me so go figure.Thats with about 20 adults. Why do ppl try so hard to abolish the ways of somebody who was very successful at what they did?You know what, you should get a Bigfoot or chupacabra instead I hear their breeding program has been quite successful and Im sure they can handle the sand just fine.Let me know if you get babies and Ill get one from you so I can train it to kill trolls.
