wow thats messed up man lol
but my display tanks get sand as well but i only feed worms so they dont eat off the sand and i only put geckos over 30 grams on it as well

Sand sucks...so hard to keep clean and a pain when you finally do decide to overhaul the cage. Not saying it isn't do-able but 1) it doesn't benefit the leos in any way to use it and 2) it just makes doing anything with the cage more difficult.

I use gray reptile carpet and its awesome. You can machine wash it when its dirty and use it over and over again. I put down a bunch of large flat thin slate rock pieces on the bottom and I think it provides a much more natural environment and is much easier to deal with than sand. They love the little caves and crevices that stacking slate provides.

The problem with reptile carpet is bacteria gets stuck in the carpet and can cause problems with your geckos. Unless treated properly I still say paper towel is best. Heck you can even get paper towel with flower prints on them :)

See this is the stuff I get sick of,is it only me or what? Its already been said in this thread that ppls geckos dig and seem to enjoy it.Mine also did.Yet somebody says it dosnt benefit them.Just like the large cage for baby snakes debate, total opposite expereince for me.Yet ppl chime in and say yes,it stresses out the snake. So many ppl keep popping in and making bold statements like a Dr. would.I think everyone needs to remember they are not doctors or vets or pro zookeepers or full time breeders. We are trying to have debates and should be able to explain wwhy we feel the way we do but I keep hearing bold staments that just dont hold true.

Theoretically he is correct, it doesn't benefit them health wise. If anything its just a mental stimulant that you can get somewhere else. I think the cons out way the pros when it comes to sand.
i was just about to say that, just because they enjoy digging sometimes it doesn't really benefit their health... just gives them a past time.
