pics of what I'm hoping is mother and father to be. FH already starting to show her breeding colors. Like I said before she has already laid twice for this guy so I'm the third times the charm. I will keep you posted.

Will the male complete his task without showing breeding colors? The only time I have seen whim turn black was when i put a bluegill in his tank for a playmate. If they do breed I will probably take a page from Bigspizz's book and keep all babies without culling. nice looking fish + nice looking fish = different but nice looking fish, imo.

Wow. My ignorance is really showing. Thank you Ricky for pointing out a few obvious things that I should have been looking for be wasn't. Out of all the fish i have had reproduce i have only looked at the colors as the only indicator of preparation to breed. Upon inspection she is def bloated an her tub is down about an 8th in maybe alittle more. I have kept the light off in the room and the tank for the last couple days only going in to feed and snap a few quick pics. They have been digging and cleaning but thats normal for my texas (everything has to be just right for him) hopefully tonight the night.

Ok some one said texas are very private and might like to do their biz under the cover of darkness. So i left the lights off on the tank all week and cut traffic around the tank significantly. Today I wanted to inspect the tank and when i turned the light on the fh began cleaning a rock with her mouth and rubbing her belly on it. Here are some new pics of her and ( please correct me if I'm wrong ) the father to be. Does the tube under my girl look normal? Thanks for the feedback in advance.

Thanks for the encouraging words FishFreak. I'm so excited I just went in to check on them and found a rock covered with eggs. I took a few quick pics and got outta there, but the all look good. :)
