thanks everyone.. the LFS store that i went to today told me it was most probable that he passed due to heart failure.. that his age was in the normal life span of course on the lower end of the average scale... the other bigger red i have is even older ...so now i wonder about him.. My jaguar has his days numbered due to old age.. he is very old and starting to lie down alot ... that was what was so weird about big red.. he gave me no clue.. while the Jaguar i can see it coming with obvious signs, although he still eats.. he just tires easily.

Wow, it must be amazing to watch a fish's life span just not them for a while. Liz your a very dedicated fish keeper, there are not many. The dedication you put towards your animals is amazing. Thanks for being such a great inspiration :headbang2

i have had my jag about 9 years.. he was adopted .. he was about 12 inches when he was adopted.. he also had a severe case of HITH.. which we successfully cured...or at least kept it in check.. so he could be 12 or 13 ... how old is a 12 inch jag about.? add on 9 years... so he is old... good luck with yours.. mine was active and normal up until two months ago.. so it is gradual yet sudden .. if you know what i mean..
