i have it. no big deal at all. stop worrying. I have an inhaler(correct sp), barely ever use it. I feel the inhaler is primarily for comfort no life threatening at least for me. It sucks here and there but no biggie.

Welcome to the club. oh yeah I have had it for 40 years. avoid cats.....

To those with asthma, I do have an honest question about living with it....

In my office, there is a lady with asthma that is militant about perfumes, lotions, basically any kind of scent. She claims any scent causes an asthma attack. She is really rude and mean to the other ladies in the office about it. I understand an attack must be a horrible feeling, but how likely is it that any scent causes an attack when going out to smoke about every 90 minutes has no impact? Does that make any sense? Isn't being around smoke, especially doing the smoking yourself, uncomfortable for people with asthma?

Yeah that lady is full of POO. I have asthma. Have had it since I was diagnosed at 6 (now I'm 25). It doesn't hurt to cut out the scents and perfumes but the smoking is completely horrendous if she's going to be a dramatic like that. It's extremely uncomfortable for me to be around smokers. I can't handle it at all.

As far as taking your inhalers, LBF, DO IT. I've been hospitalized twice because I ran out of them and didn't get more in time. That was my mistake but it takes a couple weeks to recover nicely from the attacks. I can't stress how important it is to listen to your doctor. In my case, my allergies also cause my asthma to flare up but I've learned to deal with it. Some days can be worse than others. You definitely NEED to quit smoking.

Look at this way you are willing to inhale tar, nicotine, arsnic and all kinds of oher junk with your smoking it doesn't make sense to worry tabout alittle medication that should make you feel better.
One of the best points made in this thread so far.

Asthma is an increased sensivity to restriction of the airways in the lungs(an asthma attack would be the actual restriction of those airways) the triggers for asthma attacks can be and most often are smoke, and allergens (Dust, pet dander, etc) stress as well, and pretty much anything aromatic could trigger a reaction but is unlikely. Smoke can also be the direct cause of the asma by sensitising the lungs to these other agents. Further smoking CAN and WILL exaccerbate your asthma.

Anything that is already in and of itself a lung irritant can also be(and VERY often are) a trigger
STOP smoking now.

Don't know what in your right mind gave you the idea that smoking is a "cool" thing to do. When your dying of terminal lung cancer no one will care how cool you are.

Stop self diagnosing using the internet, books, MFK or any medium other than your doctor. That is what he is paid to do and you WILL get your self diagnosis wrong, that is why doctors spend all that time in medical school. Smoking will be doing more damage to your heart than carefully designed and delivered asthma drugs.

How many threads have you made about stopping smoking??? You know to do it but you barely even try and then you come back saying you need to stop or you are going to stop or it is your last pack or only smoking cigars or whatever. Always the excuse or trying to justify it. Smoke or don't, it is up to you and only you. You are an adult now and you have to make these decisions for yourself and live with the consequences.
No one can say they don't know the dangers of smoking anymore or what it does to their body. You obviously have zero willpower to do it cold turkey going off your tendancy to make smoking threads but there are a few drugs that you take for multiple weeks and they completely get the need for nicotine out your system and break the habit completely. I used a drug called ZYBAN. Chantix or Champix is the newest one and it apparently very good.

Your low lung test is probably because you smoke, it will go up if you quit. My score was low when I went to quit smoking but now I am 3 years free from it I can tell the improvement in my breathing. My wife has been diagnosed with asthma but she is convinced she is just unfit and it was the smoking that made her lung capacity test low. She has used her blue inhaler, the one for attacks, twice in three and a half years. Both times she was at the gym and smoked. Since quitting she has never had to use it no matter what physical exertion she is under.

you can't stop reading his threads can you? lmao! i forced myself to look away but thanks for summing things up for me. feels like i haven't missed a beat now. last thread i read he was on his last pack

WTF? i can't even jokingly call someone an r tard (he laughed) or tell andy to get a blow up doll

ya, i cant wait for the chest xray, i started smoking after my mom past away, it wasnt anything to do with being *cool*. smoking calms me down, so now i have to find another remedy to calm me down.

the reason he thinks its asthma, is cause i tool the breath test and shot a 460. normal range for my age is upwards of 600. and thats another reason i need a chest xray.

Like relaxing? Have you figured out how to consciously release endorphins into your bloodstream yet? Just close your eyes and clear your mind. Now imagine a sunny day and somebody smiling and opening their hands and giving you something amazing because you are awesome. Feel that wave of warm happiness flood your body? You just did that on your own. And you can do it without the imagery, too. Eventually you can do it with your eyes open, even during difficult conversations. It's basically a shot of morphine you can give yourself. Beats any cigarette and most other pleasures.

That's just one cheap trick. Look into active relaxation. You'll probably never need anything else again.

i think it's as soon as someone sees it in a LBF thread the mods stop giving a damn and just let things unfold as they always do. Unless what you said was in a LBF thread in which case the mods must just hate you :nutkick:.

Then learn. Library is full of books, internet is full of relaxation technique info. There's even guided relaxation on youtube but some of them are scare videos.
