I need a medic here!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok guys,.. here's what i've done so far...

Put the motoro in the office tank 4 hours ago after acclimated it for 2 hours,
watched it sat still for 1/2 hour, and then it started moving a bit..
in my newbie eyes, it seems to familiarize itself to the new surrounding quite well...

So I left it after an hour passed, drove to LFS, got some bacteria starter
and phDown just in case..
drove back to the office, the motoro has been there for 4 hours or so,
seems pretty stable to me..
I put some bacteriastarter into the sump

and maybe I'll treat the water from the tap with pH down a bit..
Since the next ray coming in to the tank are the pearls and they seemed
not as active/healthy as my motoro to begin with..
So, I'm pretty concerned if the pH shock will be too much for them..

anyway I'll keep updates
thanks guys, appreciate it...

Should be doing water changes often enough so there is no ammonia.
Just my .02

you filters, if cycled will get rid of ammonia. Water changes should be done to keep your nitrates in check...not ammonia. If your doing waterchanges to remove ammonia you are not cycled.

Do not use the ph down. Change out with r/o water if you feel the need to lower the ph but I would not bother. I'm wondering if something is wrong with your test kits. Your r/o water should come out with a ph of 7 which is neutral. When you use ph down you need to premix in r/o water first and then add buffers. Your mixed water must sit for a day to stabalize. I can't remember the exact way you do everything properly but there is more than just adding ph down to tap water and dumping. If you've been doing this your ph will bounce all over the place and will also cause problems. I seriously think you should take turkeyboy up on his offer and get your tanks sorted out first. I know you want to get them in your tanks and enjoy them but it is a sickening feeling watching them fade away.

I can't believe you would obtain Pearls then worry about filter/housing.....

IF you are going to take Turkey up on his offer then you might as well just send them with Turkey down to my place where they could have a 4 by 3 all to themselves with 20 GALLONS of allready cycled bio.......

That or I'll just send a 240/sump/bio with Turkey on Saturday.

I agree with Skynoch..... PH down is crap. Knocks it down for a matter of hours then it bounces right back.

Higher PH makes ammonia more toxic. The PH doesn't harm the rays. If you lower your ph to make ammonia less toxic, your ray will suffer from PH shock

Instead, try do to a large water change or use prime to detoxifies the ammonia that you have.

Your problem may be bio bacteria that's not enough to handle your current level of bio load

I always thought ammonia was more toxic in lower PH...

You learn somthing new everyday :D

I cant do water change in the office...
I got a huge sump there, but its only been running for two days.
that office tank is not cycled, there's gonna be a large ammonia spike. even if u add the BB starter it will still take weeks for it to have enough BB to handle that motoro in that small tank. u were better off taking the offer from turkey boy then risking the life of the motoro. i wish u and ur rays luck

ok guys, here's a pic of the rays in the office tank
the motoro got in there 2 days ago,
the pearls went in last night.
all of them seems to act normal,
although the male pearl keep raising his back fin from time to time....
motoro feeds normally, and the pearls ate their share...not very much though
hopefully they're doin fine

I got a pair of leo pups comin on monday from the best cuzz in the world :D
problem is pH in my tank is now 8.1-8.2,
and in his tank pH is 6.9
i'm a bit concerned that this time the pups will have to endure pH shock

would anyone support using pH down?
I cant just do water change since the fresh out of tap has pH 8.5
I've treated a few gallons of water and managed to keep them at 7.8
after a few bounce... and its been 7.8 for 2 days so I guess its quite stable..
is it ok for me to lower my current pH ?
is it too early or too risky ?
guys whaddya think?

I am afraid you are getting in way too deep way too soon. Lots of money on nice rays in a tiny brand new uncycled tank.............disaster.

Slow down
