I was browsing for bikes on craigslist, and I found a "too good to be true" deal. A person selling a fairly nice bike that originall cost over a couple thousand dollars for a few hundred bucks, with a sob story that he needed money right away.

Anyways I've been asking him questions about the bike, and he says he loves his bike, and he's had it for years, etc....

But he was unable to answer basic questions about it that any bike owner (especially one who blew over 2K on a bike should know), and the bike is for an excessively tall person: someone 6'4" or more, and this guy is only 5'6". He claims he rides it comfortably and it's the perfect size.

At this point I'm fairly sure buying the bike is out of the question. Is there anything else I should do though?

Turn his butt in ... If he's clean he's got nothing to worry about ...and if he stole it..screw him ,he's getting exactly what's coming to him

yeah, but how does one go about turning someone in for something like that? I don't have a name, just a phone number.

Also, the bike is too big for me, so haggling down the price would do me no good, unless I went and sold a stolen bike.

Oh and I haz morals.

Post the Ad on local Bike Forums and maybe the owner will see it and take it from there

You can't turn him in... As guilty as he may seem... You need a victim.... No victim=no crime... Suspicion doesn't count, unfortunately....

Turn him in. As a person who has had a MTN bike worth 2K stolen from him, I say hang his arse. No mercy for bike thieves....

Call the cops ... They have people that will pose as buyers to see if it fits the description of one that's reported stolen ...pretty basic
