Not trying to make you feel guilty it is just that you see this so often, even from, what seem to be experienced fishkeepers, buy a fish keep it for a while then decide they cannot house it. Think about if you were on a dog board, you bought a great dane, cool puppy, then a year later you go "my god this thing got big and may get bigger" I think I will start over with something smaller. I doubt many on the dog board would find that acceptable, I wonder why fish people think their pets are more "disposable"?

balton man nooo
think about its future man!
one owner wont be able to handle him and he will just be passed on to different owners!
imagine the STRESS
and as is ur tank is big.. most ppl wont even havr a 180 gallon to spare for a lone fish!
anyways goodluck with whatever happens
i wish you the best

add 40-60 small schooling fish to the tank, very fast ones, that he won't catch very easely, and will last long.

Not only will it calm him down and releave some stress, but it should also make him not bang glass.

I could be wrong, but in my mind with a fish as beautiful and cool as yours, it's definatly worth a shot.

I've thought about that quite a bit. Thanks for the support.

You can't compare a dog with a fish. A dog gets emotionally attached to it's owner. How many times have you heard a fish called "man's best friend"? NEVER. Because a dog is completely different from a fish. He has more complex emotions than a fish will ever feel. Trust me, I feel awful, but not as nearly as bad as I would if I had to give up my dog. Just for the record though, if I had to choose between my wife and my dog, it would be my wife. (not that it's come to that with my fish either)

There's 8 spotted silver dollars, 2 filament barbs, and a tinfoil barb (he killed 2 other tfb's) for him to chase. I think the reason he's hitting the glass all day long while I'm at work is him trying to catch them. My wife can hear him constantly smacking the glass and lids all the way on the other side of the house.

Good point, and even though I agree with Balton that you can't really compare a dog to a fish it doesn't reduce our responsibility in keeping them appropriately.

In Balton's case, though, I think he's clearly a conscientious fishkeeper. I'm sure "we" can find this fish a nice home! :naughty:

I take my fish pretty seriously, if I buy a fish he pretty much stays with me, ask my clown loaches I got 5 years ago.

I imagine, I will have my dovi for years to come, barring any major catastrophe, oh well to each his own.

That is one of the reason I think LI is a good fishkeeper, he keeps his fish to maturity, and enjoys them. The fun is not buying a big fish, it is raising him yourself.

I have one question, what pet would you consider "in line" with a fish that you have kept for over a year, since my dog comparison was so over the top for you? I am curious to see what would be comparable for you.
