i say u can give his some tankmates. Since you do have other tanks and promise to upgrade if necessayr in the future,give him male cons alittle bigger then him to give him a run for his money. once u see how aggresive he is even try gettin jewels if u think he can handle a jewel!

I had a 4 inch Red Devil in with 4 to 6 inch Jags and Dempseys that i figured would hold there own. Guessed wrong LOL.. Red Devils are relentless with aggression and defending territorys. It was there job in life to keep every fish hiding in fear of crossing its path. With all that said,I want some again..There a beautiful fish full of personality..

I would not recommend any type of cichlid though. I have 6 silver dollars and 12 giant danios in my 75 gallon. The RD chases the silver dollars here and there but not relentlessly. He doesnt even bother with the Danios. the trick is to put fish in that look nothing like the RD. Good Luck and enjoy your RD, i have had two and from my own personal expirience, they are the best cichlid in terms of being owner responsive

hahaha i remember my devil when i first got him was like 4inches and i put him in my 55 with my big oscars jaguar and dempsey and he was the boss of the tank in less than a month and all the other fish were atleast 5inches bigger than him!!
