I WANT an Aqua Forest! Am I crazy???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ya it really is im kinda lucky.......i guess you could call it that... but im still in college so im already out of room in my apartment with only a 75 and a 29 so i cant go spending money on more tanks so thats a good thing

not sure if you mentioned this already, but what kind of CO2 setup are you running?

im not sure the name brand i got it used from wyldfya so im sure he remebers the name. but its just a normal 5lb bottle with a regulator, solinoid and bubble counter and a glass diffuser. i think i would run a reactor if i had a canister filter. but i dont.

cool. one thing i dont understand is how you monitor CO2 levels without an automatic system and a ph controller. do you have to constantly check your ph levels? what the ideal ph range for a planted tank?

no i dont check my co2 levels at all i just watch my fish and be sure they are doing ok i try and put as much co2 i can into the tank without killing the fish im at about 4 to 5 bubbles per second right now and everthing is good well seems to be good atleast

ok guys, here's a quick project update yeeeeeeeeee! just picked up the tank for this project. found a deal on craiglist i couldnt pass up! its a 55g acrylic tank (Sea Clear i think is the brand) with stand and two dual bulb fixtures. i think 4 bulbs total should give me enough lighting, close to 3wpg. the tank is in great shape, just has a few very light scratches that im gonna buff out.

ready for the price? $60!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i think it was an awesome deal :headbang2

Nice p/u! That'll make a great planted tank

just remember he has tiny fish in them tanks for a reason. imagin a half decent sized cichlid or a bichir or carfish in anyone of them tanks and spook it. What do u think is going to happen with the plants? i see a miny typhon of plants floating threw the tanks. Alltho them tanks are stunnin.

Ide try it with a ten gallon in like a liveing room . maybe raise baby bichirs in it and them false mini flounders they sell.

hey guys,

im thinking of running a fully automatic CO2 system; dont wanna deal with the hassle of having to monitor CO2 levels constantly. What do you guys think of this ph controller and regulator/solenoid combo? seems like a good deal for under $200

so if i understand this correctly, the plug from the solenoid plugs into the ph controller, then the ph controller gets plugged into the wall. then, when the ph reaches the preset level, the CO2 gets shut off. is this correct?

basically, if i get this all i would need is the CO2 bottle and a diffusor or reactor. do diffusors work that well, as ive read reactors are better?

what do you guys think of this reactor? seems ok but im not sure...

thx!
That is the type of reg combo I use now.

I was at the time, it was a hold over from growing live coral, You may have a point about the hair grass being a non aquatic version, how would I know? some of it came from a petsmart and the rest from on line dealers. this tank was a 125 with a 50 gallon sump.
The non aquatic form is generally darker. Almost the color of anubias. I know that Petsmart/petco sell the non aquatic plant.
