I see those fish all the time and everyone calls them gizzard shad. None of them really look like the one teleost posted. not that his isn't, I just think its an off picture. The ones I see look identical to the ones midnight caught. I see those and mooneye everywhere in the marinas right after iceout.

alewife are too small. The head shape is still different from an alewife.
