cuz hes mad at me :raspberry, for IDing on color

Its not just you but while you're here maybe you should give it a try? I'm only trying to help people learn with this thread and I'm certainly not mad at you, if anything I feel sorry for you.

i disagree, color can play big roll in the id of a fish. why would you show the fish in black and white if color doesn't play a roll?

Color can play a role yes, I have IDed many fish based on color alone but it is not necessary. Color can be deceiving and so I'm taking that away. I'm trying to get people to use other features on the fish to ID it instead.

In short JDS, there's been a recent argument about what characteristics should be used when identifying fish. In a recent instance it's been argued that a green sunfish is a bluegill (despite a large mouth, body shape and short pec) based on color alone.

Sandtiger is just trying to help.

haha i see what your trying to do and i think i gotcha. longear

Why is it a longear?

Edit: I beat you nah nah na nah nah =-)

i believe its a longear because its dorsal fin has 10 spines, like a longear, and its anal fin has 3 spines and several rays like a longear. also the shape of the ear appears to be that of a longear. correct me if im wrong, but i think i have a good chance at getting this right :D

so? am i right?

Ive been following that thread and I'm not 100% shure thats a pure green. without a DNA test i will not be convised its a pure green. a true expert would know this so why argue?

All Lepomis species have three anal fin spines. All or almost all can have ten dorsal fin spines.
