Ideas For South American Community Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my favorite subject, stocking a south american tank....:D:nilly:

i have some dwarf acaras.. great fish... only about the size of a ram too

cardinals would be a great addition... pencilfish would look nice too, Nannostomus mortenthaleri are amazingly colored, or the more expensive, Nannostomus espei

cories in my opinion are a must have, help with cleaning up left over food off the bottom, corydoras sterbai, are my personal favorite however there are tons of different types of cories

hatchet fish are cool characins that stay at the top, just under the water surface, carnegiella strigata, are cool

lemon, bleeding heart, cardinal, etc. tetras would go nicely

just watch out for fish that may eat the rummies or cardinals like angelfish..

Thanks for all the ideas guys...can't wait to add some more fish and grow the plants out. I think the cardinals and hatchets would be great. I looked up the dwarf acaras and they look great. I've never seen them locally though... I have 1 75G canister and 2 75G HO filters with a 2 UV sterilizers and a sponge filter for this setup. Think I can get away with over stocking this tank? I am also a habitual water changer, I'm assuming that helps with over stocking.

Could put in a keyhole cichlid too...really peaceful and won't eat your little guys.

BLACK NEONS!!!!!

I would think so. You have a lot of filtration and those fish all are really light in terms of bioload.

I guess you could, it would limit your future selection though. IME go with this:
4 rams
25 rummynoses
15 of some kind of cory
20 cardinals
4 dwarf acaras
1 Green phantom pleco
