Fact? Did you actually read what I said? I offered a logical reason as to why I would do something the way I do and offered my opinion on it.
The guy came back with 'well it's worked so it must be fine'. I didn't say people were wrong for doing it, I said personally I don't think it's necessary.
I offered my thoughts on a topic, that's all.
He offered his thoughts, and wisdom from keeping fish and speaking to tons of other fish keepers. Your statement sounds as much "broscience" as any implication you could make from his statement. Whether you choose to take what he said as concrete data or an informed opinion is not under my control, but your argument is in the same vein. It's like saying the broscience guy is wrong because you got swole on a different regiment, so he must not be right. Without any science to back it, it's all opinions so why would you assume otherwise? Your argument topples itself when you base your argument on your experience and insult others experiences.
One person here has to be the real man. That may be you or someone else, but that's the only way to stop this. Was his sarcastic smart ass reply to me useful in any way to this discussion and was it an unnecessarily abrasive retort?
I haven't read the whole thread as it looked like mostly bullying and b*tching. I offered my thoughts on it. I stand by those, you may take them or leave them.![]()
1st of all, changing water everyday even 80-90% isn't doing anything but helping, less than 10% of beneficial bacteria live in the water column.Jesus Christ, ladies!
The only fish I've ever quarantined have been marine wild caught and F0 freshwater. I personally don't think there's any need to quarantine a tank bred fish. A pathogen that will affect a healthy fish these days is almost unheard of. A fish with ick does not just infect the rest of the tank with ick, that's not how it works.
To quarantine a fish properly it needs to be in a display size tank, not some sort of poxy 10/20g, this will do more harm than good. It would also need to be at least 90 days for it to be useful and ultra clean water. Having a small tank and saying you'll do 80% water changes a day is also counter productive as you're just going to just massively piss with the water parameters which will only stress the fish more.
So basically, if you're going to preach quarantine I hope you're doing it properly, because if you're not you'll be doing more harm than good, and my personal opinion is that if it hasn't come from the wild, don't waste your time.
Why don't you call my parents and tell them that.1st of all, changing water everyday even 80-90% isn't doing anything but helping, less than 10% of beneficial bacteria live in the water column.
Do you know how many times I hear "Too many water changes are bad for the fish and the bacteria" from everyone in my family who kept fish. That includes my Mom, who acts like an expert at this because she had a 10 gal in high school. Why don't you call my parents and tell them that.

IDK what to say if they don't believe you, but it is well-known in the Fishkeeping world that 90%+ of your natural bacteria live in the filter and gravel and décor. They are really not a very free-swimming organism that just gallivants freely through open water - they need something to anchor themselves into. Why don't you call my parents and tell them that.
