I just noticed you are a fellow OC'er! I used to live in LN at Seaside Meadows. Great town! I'm in costa mesa now by back bay/newport beach.

We should PM and trade LFS stories. Lol. If you get a chance, check out the one on the corner of Ball and Moody street in Cypress. (north OC and my favorite monster fish store for now)

A good guide to w/c's:

These guys are hemming over whether 10% daily is extreme and harmful:

This guy was OBVIOUSLY interupting his cycle and was adding seed material in panty hose trying to get the cycle going. Granted he was doing daily or twice daily partial changes.

Just food for thought... 50% is beyond extreme IME and into the rediculous, and I think you guys may actually be keeping your BB at superlow levels by overchanging your water. Just my $.02, but dang... I had a 10 year 20gal aquarium growing up and if we vacuumed/changed the water once a month it was more often than normal. We lost ONE fish in a 10 year span and that was because it jumped out and died on the carpet before we found it.

I have not dealt with cycling issues forever but yes, in the beginning I don't recommend twice daily wcs.

But bbs are not mostly in water. In my system, they mostly live in my roughly 10 gallons of bio filter material .

Thats exactly the point I was trying to make. If someone has a big ol' sump or multiple filters with established media, or substrate/logs/sticks etc then they can change water until they pass out and not upset their cycle. I'm more thinking of these people who have bare tanks, change their water like it's going out of style and maybe don't have a cycle and that's why their fish look worse after a day or two and fresh water + prime or other is helping.

Thats where I just bought my used acrylic 125 corner tank! I freakin' love that place. I hadn't been there for two years while I was out of the hobby and he remembered me for bringing him a giant walking catfish! When you walk in that place and the first thing you see is a true MONSTER aro, and that's like 1 of 20 in the store, you know you are in the right place. I'm on a big synodontis kick right now and they have a few 7-8" ones right now! Plus about a thousand other fish that would eat every fish I am trying to grow currently without even needing to burp... lol

In the winter time my tanks get 40-50% every 10 days or so. Other than that, its 75% every week like clockwork.

I really need to get a drip going.

I'm channeling my inner redneck.. here goes:

Dang man, why you gotta change 75% of your water man? Thats nutso and what do yer fishes do while do do this? They swim sideways for a while until you get enough water in the tank?

I think we have uncovered a psychosis more than a topic here on this thread. Water-change-a-holics-not-so-anonymous.

You guys doing daily water changes seems nuts / over excessive to me unless you are on a drip system...

I personally do min. 50% water changes on all my tanks each week and thats always been enough, i could likely go even longer since my parameters are always in check, but just do it anyway...
