I'm on the verge of crying

Sorry about your loss Onion01. Look on the bright side. Now you have more room for your growing monsters.

Also, if you wish to replace them with Jags, I can provide those to you for free. But I'm not sure if they are a good fit for your other fish(es).

Sorry for your loss, the dose seemed rather high. I 've always went with 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons. Don't know if the 1.667 tablespoons per 5 gallons was the problem though. Again sorry to hear.

thanks matt, but I will concentrate my efforts on the arowana now. She is looking great. Hasn't eaten anything yet, but is cruising comfortably around the tank. Hasn't panicked or tried to jump yet

I added 1 tsp per gallon, but I think I might have added it too fast and shocked them to death

1 tsp per gallon is too much salt. One tsp per 5 is usually the recommended dose. You just want enough salt to aggrivate the fish into producing extra slime coat.

Not trying to bash you man...sorry again for the loss.

Hmm...that is odd. Never heard of them bellying up because of raised temps and salt. Serious bummer dude. How are the other fish eh? QT tanks are priceless....

all the others are 100% fine. checked up on them. for some reason it only affected the polys. probably because they are bottom dwellers and I didn't dissolve the salt first. who knows?

You need to dissolve the salt before you put it in the tank. This is most likely why they died. I do feel sorry for your situation, but I feel like an answer would make you feel a little better in a way :) Good luck and never do it again...lesson learned..

no you dont

i dumped it in a glass full at a time in my sump or in the tank itself, ive never had any issue with it. it would be better because it mixes in with the water gradually as it disolves, better than having a rush of water with a extremely high salinity (in the glass or cup or whatever)

I am seriously about to break down. Last night I saw what looked like a couple of ich spots on one of my baby pbass, so I bumped up the temperature and added a salt to the tank. The coinhabitants were 5 baby (5 inch and under) bichirs. 1 endi, 1 delhezi, 2 palmas, 1 senegal. There were also 2 severums. This morning, I found ALL of my little bichirs floating belly up, their skin eaten away at some parts of their body. I can only imagine it was the salt, but like I said, I am on the verge of crying right now. :(

what was the temperature of the tank?

what did you raise it too?
