Incompatable tankmates that will never work. But do anyway (?).

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
also, I just threw 15$ worth of water plants in there. We'll see how much the Jack Dempseys enjoy lettuce :)

my sister has a little pepper cory with a huge pacu

since i can remember

My flower horn lives with convicts, an oscar, a jack dempsey, two plecos and two ropefish. Not that odd but most flowerhorns need to be kept alone. Mine seems to want to breed with my dempsey as well.

Right now I have a Texas Cichlid and a Red Devil living with a Zebra about one fourth their size. The Texas and the Devil stay together all the time and ignore the much smaller Zebra. They had also lived with an old foot long Oscar who just recently gave up its ghost. The Texas has killed several other tankmates including a Green Severum and a Mayan Cichlid. The Texas is several years old now and starting to grow his hump. The owner of the Red Devil's parents kept them in a large tank at a shop with a variety of fish until the last time they spawned while he was away and they slaughtered everything.

i had 2 10"+ redbelly piranhas with 2 3" jaguars ,3" cuban, and 2 texans, 4 1"- 1 1/2" true festaes ,4 tiger barbs ,tin foil barb, and a Leporinus about 3-4 weeks i just sold the piranhas .. the cuban was biting the piranhas tails.. now that they are gone everyone has settled down and are very nice to one another

My 75 Gallon is a battlezone waiting to erupt, but so far I have the following (Note, I know this is way overstocked for adults, but right now, none are more and 4")

1 Oscar, 2 JD's, 2 Salvini, 1 Firemouth, 1 rainbow Shark, 1 Featherfin cat, 20 Rosy Red Minnows.

I started with the Rosy's to see if I could keep anything alive (first tank and all), once that worked, I bought the others. I only meant to get 1 JD, but the store accidentally gave me 2. Right now, 1 JD is real passive, and will soon be removed, the other is coloring up real nice. The Salvini's currently dominate the tank, and chase every one else away from their small patch of tank, the only one they don't mess with is the Oscar, but the Oscar is actually fairly passive, though he does get most of the food.

The Rosy's school around without a care in the world, and none of the other fish pay attention to them at all, though I am sure this will change in a few months.

I never see the cat even though his is currently the biggest fish in the tank.

The firemouth is real dull and hides most of the time, he will probably go at the same time as the other JD. I will also probably get rid of one Salvini and see if I can make the tank work with the O, 1 JD, 1 Sal, the Rainbow and the Cat. I know that is overstocked, but I have tons of filtration as well, so we'll see.

I did have 5 White molly's as well, but for some reason the passive JD hated them and killed them all. A couple got their faces bitten right off.

Ha, spoke too soon. Got home yesterday, 10 dead minnows and my Firemouth was dead. The minnows look like they got attacked, but weren't fully eaten, their bellys were all ripped open. I think it was the Salvini's, they are the only ones who ever seemed to bother them, but they are still too small to eat them. I got about 6 minnows left.

I don't think the Firemouth was killed by another tank mate though. He never really seemed all that healthy to begin with. I probably should have culled him a while ago. There were no signs of any attack on him.

Anyway, the dead fish must have been there a good 12 hours or so, and I got an ammonia spike on the tank and the water is real cloudy. Did a big water change and ammonia dropped but still reading .25 on my API test and the water hasn't cleared. I added ammo-lock and will do another big change tonight, so hopefully I don't lose anything else.

The one most out of place fish in my tank is a Common goldfish. At around 3" he was first put into the tank for a big Red Belly Pacu I once had to eat. But he never got eaten. So now a year later this goldfish is a 10"+ beast!

Another out of place fish in my tank is a single Trifasciata Rainbowfish. He survived couple attacks from a Florida Gar I once had. Lucky for him his shape kept the gar from being able to swallow it. He about 4" right now.

My 17" Mbu most people would strongly advise me not to keep it in community 300.

Almost all my fish come from Southeast Asian Region. I have one Geophagus that is my sons fish. He's probably out of place in my tank since he from Neotropical Region.

My 180 has the following:

1 male midas
1 FEMALE m.jag
2 male red terrors
1 malawi hawk
1 convict
1 assrt peacock
1 jewel
2 ornate
2 palamas
3 senegal
2 blue zaire

Needless to say, the Jag rules the tank, but so far no aggression.
