What Hardie product do i use? I see there is Hardie panels, Hardieplanks, and hardisoffet that come in smooth, stucco and cedarmill.

So i put the hardie product as tight as i can at the joints and drylok than silicon?

EDIT: Now that i am going to use the Hardie product, do you guys think i could go with a thinner plywood? Like 1/2'' or even OSB?

You probably could if its braced well enough around the rest of the tank, but I wouldnt. Your not going to save all that much money. Besides, its easier to pre drill, glue and screw into the 3/4.

A few more questions :D!

I know if varys from dealer to dealer, but what would it cost for a 4'x12'' viewing window of lets say 3/8'' What would be the minimum thickness if i put it on the very top of the sides and it only went down 12''?

Hows this sound for a cutlist
94.5''x48~bottom peice.
2x 8'x2~ sides
2x 4'x2'` sides

How thick are the hardie boards?

When i install the Hardie Boards make them nice and tight, 2 coats of drylok than silicon all joints?

Do i put the viewing window on top of the Hardie board, or set it so the Hardie boards are flush with the glass and silicon it to the plywood.

im starting my 2800 gallon monster within the next week, wood and glass frame with concrete and cinder block for support
Yeah i'm hoping for answers so i can start mine!

Little update, i think i will be using drylok straight onto the plywood. Cut out the middleman.

Awful large tank to experiment with drylok directly on plywood.

Thanks for replying!

There is only two tanks i have seen done with Hardie and drylok and one of them has already leaked... It just seems well actually safer and cheaper! to do it without the Hardie panels. I will talk to a person who has done drylok on plywood and see what he says. Can someone knock some sense into me?

I'm wondering if it would be cheaper to get the Sanitred than it would be the hardie and drylok method. Anyone want to do any math? Please!

Thanks, Bill.

Out of the two tanks you have seen with hardi one is still going, and the other had a problem from not gluing the hardi down, plus the mistake of walking around in it. Im not going to try to suade you either way. Personally I would love to see a 500 or 600 gallon tank done with drylok directly on wood. I just wouldnt want to be the one to try it.
