Drylok is far cheaper, easier to apply. I have seen numerous people using sanitred and have had a hard time getting a seal around the glass. My 600 is dryloked, and leak free so far since January. You can pm the fish guy if you want, I know he has used both and has said if he was to build another he would use drylok again. I dont think I would use directly on wood, although it does work.
Did you use Hardi panels and then Drylok? Yeah i have already asked The Fish Guy too many questions

So do you guys know of anyone who has used Drylok on plywood successfully?

I really like the idea about having the trickle filter/sump above the tank. I just want a large sump! I dont know what it is with a large sump on a large tank. I figured i'm only going to build one so why not do it up big? Eventually as the fish get bigger i will have to get a bigger return pump, probably like a Mag 9.5-12, then i will probably use the quiet one to pump water up onto a second filtering system. Either that or still use it in the sump.

Yes I used hardi, and yes I know of at least two who have used it directly on wood with success, but the company does not recomend it.

How much are the hardie panels? Like around 25 bucks a sheet? Do you just score them and break them clean off or is a masonry blade needed? Do i need to silicon the joints or just drylok them up?

I bought 4x10x1/4" sheets I cant remember the price about 25 or 30$ each. I used a carbide tipped circular saw blade, though any blade should work, just dull faster.Dont bother to try to score and snap. Once all installed paint with at least 3 coats of drylok, all seems and glass need to be silliconed.

What Hardie product do i use? I see there is Hardie panels, Hardieplanks, and hardisoffet that come in smooth, stucco and cedarmill.

So i put the hardie product as tight as i can at the joints and drylok than silicon?

EDIT: Now that i am going to use the Hardie product, do you guys think i could go with a thinner plywood? Like 1/2'' or even OSB?

cool how many gallons will this come out to about? does any body know where to get a liner big enough for an 8x8x 2 or 4

What would it take to put a viewing window at the very top of this thing. I would probably use a piece from a 55g? Is it hard with the Hardie panels?

Anyone have thoughts about the lumber?
