Our topic was the quality of fish wild caught vs captive bred amd my point is if done right you can breed captive bred fish to look just as well as wild caught or even better if taken the time and done correctly- not throwing a bunch of different fish in a pond. I'm talking about throwing a bunch of the best looking particular species of fish in the same pond and breeding them- just like Asian arros. It can be done and that is my point.
There's already nice looking captive bred Zingus and Temensis, etc is there not?

Look man, you are right "if done correctly" breeding cichla can get quality offspring. But my original point was that people who get an actual wild caught cichla will have much better odds of it being an exceptional looking fish than one that is not. That is what all the old timers used to say when I first started & I believe it is true. The one other thing they would say was not all "wild caught" labeled cichla are wild caught. There are only enough vendors to count on 1 hand that people know they can trust with that label. And they pay the price to those accomplished & reputable vendors.

i see snook already has his on special for $950.

I have strong hunch all these intermedia are being collected by one person by the bunch and slowly being sold off. That would only explain why the price has dropped so drastically in month since we first started seeing these pop up and go for 1000+. Which then like stated above also makes feel these are all from the same parents, how else could you collect so many from the same location. I think Oliver may have been correct on this when he says the market will be flooded in the next year. Keep your eves open people something is definitely up!

Don't get me wrong I'm very excited to see them in the market again and in people's homes. I just hope it doesn't get out of control with them.

I might be wrong but Olivers are from different collection point?

I don't know the cichla game as well as you guys but, I know with other new worlds I have seen some ugly wild caught. See when they collect most of the time ugly is thrown back and only most desired traits are kept. So to say all wild will be nicer is IMO an understatement

Oliver has 70 in stock so the rarity is slowly going away. But we already knew that would happen as he predicted it. LOL

You honestly think there are a bunch of Colombians risking their life for this illegal fish to export? No there is a very very small number. Probably just one 2 maybe a handful but I bet you all they all know each other. It's too coincidental that these all just came in at one time. I'm just saying some thing happened here quick. I don't think it's the last we have seen of them either. Just saying 😎
